We have a part-time vacancy for an experienced Practice Nurse to joinour friendly and well-established team to undertake all aspects of PracticeNursing. We are looking for 3 sessionsper week (15 hours) worked on Wednesday& Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons.There may be scope to increase these hours in the future. For the right candidate we may also considertraining a qualified nurse, not experienced in general practice.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will be Treatment Room including Cytology,Childhood Immunisations, Wound Management, Vaccinations, Venepuncture etc. It would be an advantage to have skills inchronic respiratory disease management as we are looking for a nurse to managethese patients and have responsibility for QOF in this area.

We are a small rural GMS practice, locatedwithin Cropredy village in the Oxfordshire countryside in a purpose-builtsurgery and take our patients from the surrounding farms and villages. Wecurrently have six GPs (two partners and four salaried) and a dedicated andexperienced team, including administration staff and a fully staffed dispensary.At present we have three practice nurses, one ANP, an experienced HCA and a phlebotomist.We also benefit from various PCN roles including 2 Community Pharmacists and mentalhealth patient support through a social prescriber.
We are an EMIS Web practice and are a member of North Oxfordshire RuralAlliance (NORA) PCN
We hold regular clinical meetings and additional separate whole practicemeetings. Our partnership is supportiveto clinical staff and we hold daily clinical catch-up meetings to ensure fullaccess to peer support amongst clinicians.
We would be keen to support and develop areas of special interest withinprimary care and promote additional learning and development.

JOB DESCRIPTION
General Practice Nurse
REPORTS TO: Practice Manager (Administratively) & GP Partners (Clinically)
HOURS: 15 hours Weds AM, Thur AMs, Friday PM
JOB SUMMARY :
The purpose of the post is to deliver safe, high quality primary care nursing services to the practice population. Working within the NMC Code of Conduct the post holder will take a nurse role within the nurses team, using previous primary care experience to provide nurse interventions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES :
Clinical care delivery general
1. Carry out nursing interventions and measurements for patients using clinical judgement.
2. Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation.
3. Recognise health promotion opportunities and give brief, focused lifestyle advice using motivational interviewing techniques which may include brief intervention sign-posting.
4. Undertake initial assessment of patients presenting with wounds, produce treatment plans and refer to other services as necessary.
5. Measure circulation by recording Ankle Brachial Pressure Index and applying compression therapy to patients with venous leg ulcers.
6. Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips and staples.
7. Take samples for the cervical screening programme according to recognised standards.
8. Administer vaccines to adults and children according to the UK immunisation schedule.
9. Administer prescribed therapies such as vitamin B12 and Depo medications recognising side effects and contraindications.
Sexual health
10. Advise women on suitability of oral and long term contraceptive methods and be aware of local referral pathways.
Long term conditions
After appropriate training:
Provide a nurse-run asthma/diabetes/COPD service to patients to include screening, diagnosis, ongoing management and referral to other agencies in line with NICE guidance and Quality and Outcome Framework indicators.
Quality assurance/service support
11. Participate in quality improvement and innovations audit, significant event analysis and development of protocols and new services.
12. Recognise opportunities to reduce inequalities and unwarranted variation in health care for the practice population
13. Mentorship for preceptor programmes and contributing to revalidation needs of nurse colleagues. Analyse data and develop initiatives to improve uptake of national screening and immunisation programmes including coordinating new vaccination campaigns.
Personal/professional development
14. Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as defined by the practice.
15. Complete skills-specific training and regular updating.
16. Participate in an annual individual performance review maintaining a record of own personal and professional development including the requirements of NMC revalidation.
17. Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance. Identify gaps in knowledge and skills and how further learning can enhance delivery of nursing service.
