Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available The role As part of SSEN TransmissionsOffshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Plant Engineer to join our newly formed Offshore HVAC (Alternate Current) Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island and Offshore projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island and Offshore projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology. You will - Review or approve designs through the development and execution phases including for example route selection, substation tie-ins, conductor selection and stage by stage diagrams. - Supervise (but not line manage) and direct Engineers within their specialist remit, using your technical expertise, you'll drive decision making and support other projects through peer review of key issues. - Be expected to promote best practices within the OHL design and installation through suggested improvements in specifications, technology options and management of engineering risks. - Promote and manage safety within your assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the engineering issues are compliant with relevant company, HSE and industry regulations. - Have responsibility for Engineering delivery on your assigned projects of a typical capital value of £50m to 100m. Working closely with Engineering Managers, Lead Project Managers and Project Managers you'll ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and understood, and projects are successfully delivered. You have - Demonstrable experience working on the transmission network with in-depth knowledge of Overhead lines specifically development/design/specification and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions. - An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and the implications of this for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR is essential. - Effective communication skills, and you should be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management. - Confidence and demonstrable experience in working alongside key stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally, with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships. - Ideally a degree in Mechanical, Electrical or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally are a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
