Job Description
The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, agreeing and delivering detailed planning requirements and concerns closure for a specific Manufacturing Zone / Technology from Pre-series through series production to EOP. The Production Planning Engineer must deliver to the agreed Quality, Cost and Delivery targets whilst ensuring Health and Safety, IATF16949 and VW Standards compliance.
Where applicable, the Planning Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Manufacturing Feasibility is evaluated in line with PEP. Responsibilities include:
1. Delivery of Quality Planning (APQP) processes and activities in Pre-series and Series Production ensuring internal and external audit compliance.
2. Manufacturing sign-off of Bid specs and product B-release in-line with project timings and PEP deliverables.
3. Identification of Facility, Jig, Fixture and Tooling requirements.
4. Continual updating of technical knowledge through liaison with Group Colleagues, Benchmarking, Training, etc.
5. Developing the settings/parameters of equipment and process.
6. Implementing engineering change introduction within their zones.
7. Management of permits and concessions.
8. Leading the resolution of issues (e.g., Feasibility, Process, Build Issues, Fixtures and tools) using appropriate problem-solving techniques and resources.
Qualifications / Skills needed
1. Technically competent in product assembly, process design, facilities and standardised work methodology.
2. Demonstrable experience in cross-functional working within a Manufacturing or Production environment.
3. Good working knowledge of processes and business legislation (including Health & Safety).
4. Able to provide technical support to the production teams.
5. Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels across the business.
6. Experience in the application of Continuous Improvement and problem-solving tools and techniques.
7. Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and measurement data.
8. Knowledge of key Health & Safety regulations.
9. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation.
10. Involvement in cross-functional teams and projects to achieve business improvement.
11. Knowledge of the Product Emergence Process and gateway deliverables.
12. Extensive practical knowledge in Problem Solving Techniques.
13. An understanding of dimensional management analysis.
14. Ability to evaluate K and P times in line with Manufacturing Business Strategy.
15. An understanding of measurement techniques.
16. Knowledge of dry builds and properties strategy.
17. Extensive knowledge of vehicle build processes.
