Would you like to support both inpatients and maternity patients around Tobacco Dependence? The service is funded through the NHS Ten Year Plan to provide support while in hospital and pregnancy for those who are tobacco dependent. This is a temporary 12-month opportunity to work in a small team providing support around tobacco dependence. We are looking for candidates who have an NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification, able to do a physically demanding role, can work as part of a team as well as individually, possess excellent communication skills and a friendly manner, can work under pressure, and have the ability to deliver training, confidence in IT systems, and knowledge around tobacco dependence and treatment.
Main duties of the job
1. Work with the tobacco treatment service to provide behavioral support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking.
2. Provide training to employees on screening and brief interventions and support the Team in developing and delivering education to Trust employees.
3. Maintain a high standard of work and prioritize own workload according to the needs of the service.
4. The tobacco dependency service will operate during office hours with Saturday working on a rota basis.
5. Keep timely and accurate records of interventions and outcome activity.
6. Signpost into other services and integrate care with other providers of health services.

Job responsibilities
1. Work with the onsite tobacco treatment service and specialist nurse to provide behavioral support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking.
2. Support the day-to-day running of the onsite and offsite tobacco treatment service to ensure safe, well-organized and evidence-based care is offered routinely to all identified smokers.
3. Support the delivery of the service key performance and reporting indicators for tobacco dependency.
4. Provide training to employees on screening and brief interventions and support the Team in developing and delivering education to Trust employees in the specialty of tobacco dependence.
5. Maintain a high standard of work and prioritize own workload according to the needs of the service.
6. Take referrals, including self-referrals into the service and work with patients to identify the most appropriate tobacco dependency treatment pathway.
7. Identify and engage with individuals and groups from target areas.
8. Support individuals to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
9. Record and report activities and results.
10. Develop and sustain tobacco dependency support and referrals into the service.
11. The tobacco dependency service will operate seven days each week.
12. Keep timely and accurate records of interventions and outcome activity.
13. Signpost into other services and integrate care with other providers of health services.
14. Undertake clinical supervision on a regular basis in line with relevant professional guidelines and policies.
15. Comply with the Trust's vision, values and behavioral compact.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working within an acute hospital.
* Experience in providing training in brief interventions.
* Experience working with people in a behavior change context.
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
* Flexible to meet the needs of the service covering 7 days a week.
* Ability to meet the extensive travel requirements of the post in order to support community clinics.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent with a willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 3.
* Maths and English (GCSE 9-4) or Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2.
* Level 2 smoking cessation training.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Skills & Knowledge
* Understanding of the drivers of ill health.
* Knowledge of tobacco treatment.
* Knowledge of the impact tobacco dependence can have on physical health, mental health and social issues.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Ability to build constructive relationships with warmth, using good communication skills.
* Ability to be flexible and to manage own workload effectively.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to work in partnership with other agencies.
* Competent in the use of IT software such as Microsoft Office.
* Ability to deliver training and presentations as required to staff and service users.
* Knowledge of national health and social care policy.
* Ability to recognize when to escalate concerns to senior staff.
