Purpose
This post provides a rare opportunity for an experienced Senior Developer to step into a critical role supporting a major agile development underpinning the organisations mission. Working at the heart of research and innovation in the UK, you will be part of a team of technical specialists that enable the successful delivery of services. Reporting directly to the Lead Developer, your broad remit is to deliver and integrate software to form a complete service that underpins our critical business processes that enable the fulfilment of our mission.
Main outputs and activities
* Plan and lead development on sets of related stories
* Have an understanding of the whole system and take responsibility for teaching this to others
* Work with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built
* Coach and mentor more junior colleagues
* Operate the production services you build
* Find ways to improve system robustness, resilience and stability
Selection criteria
Applicants will be able to demonstrate skills in line with the Senior Developer level using the Government Digital and Data Professional Capability Framework.

Essential:

* Experience delivering integration through optimised interfaces (S)
* Design a build with users at the heart of what we do. (S&I)
* Demonstrable experience designing, coding and debugging JavaScript based systems including NodeJS/express, RESTful APIs, React (S)
* Good skills in web front end technologies such as HTML, CSS, etc. (S&I)
* Excellent knowledge of relational databases including data modelling, SQL scripts (S)
* Familiarity with source control systems, including branching, merging, etc. (I)
Desirable: (optional)
* Be able to prioritise competing deadlines and objectives (I)
* Experience of working in a Public Sector Organisation (S)
Security
As a minimum, due to the nature of this role, candidates must be eligible for clearance in line with UK National vetting guidelines and willing to undertake the process. The level of clearance required is security check.
