NHS England’s Data and Analytics Directorate is supporting the NHS to become data enabled over the next 10 years. Our vision is to put patients in control of their data and care, support clinicians, decision-makers and researchers with access to trusted, real-time and high-quality data and support the NHS Data Community to apply their skills to high value opportunities. We are looking for an Assistant Director of Data Visualisation Development to develop and evolve our vast data visualisation estate to support the NHS in unlocking the power of data.
Main duties of the job
Key aspects of this role will be to:
1. Ensure the policy on data visualisation is understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
2. Provide leadership for the Data Vis team and champion the use of data visualisation across the system to improve policy, analysis, research and care.
3. Own key technical decisions and roadmap for Data Vis in the New NHS England.
4. Ensure the development and management of relevant policies, guidelines and best practices for data visualisations.
5. Ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to enable the successful delivery of data visualisations.
6. Proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
7. Monitor and establish accountability on the overall progress of the visualisation projects and services to ensure completion within agreed timescales.
8. Avoid the destabilisation of business as usual.
9. Manage and actively promote relationships with key stakeholders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As Assistant Director of Data Visualisation Development, the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective data visualisation service, supporting staff to develop clear and representative visualisations of data to support insights and data-driven decision making.
Person specification
Knowledge
* In-depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in data visualisation, Tableau, Power BI and Foundry visualisation techniques.
* In-depth understanding of data within the NHS and how visualisation techniques support the strategic objectives of the NHS.
Experience
* Experience of data analytical and transformation concepts and how to clearly represent data to support policy, analysis and research.
* Experience setting data visualisation policy, guidelines and best practices and applying this to multiple areas across the NHS.
Skills
* Demonstrable leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning, across a number of horizons and effectively manage demands and resources.
* Excellent stakeholder management in the NHS and data landscape, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Qualifications
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in a relevant specialist area.
