The Project Engineer is responsible for the integrity and delivery of the engineering and technical elements of work focusing on the execution of the project engineering tasks, ensuring the scope is well defined, controlled, understood, and aligned with the deliverables and safety requirements and reports to the Engineering Manager (EM).
The Project Engineer must work closely with the engineers across the business (technical, process, design and project) as well as other functional managers and subcontractors to progress these deliverables and manage/ support any queries that may arise.
The Project Engineer is a lead as well as a technical point of contact with the customer to ensure that feedback is maintained to progress deliverables, clarify scope, and assist the team in identifying technical risk and responding to any queries that may arise. The Project Engineer will work closely with designers and project managers to collaboratively ensure the contracted scope is delivered in a timely manner and that the project remains profitable for the business.
Role Responsibilities
Review scope, contract, engineering schedules, and client specifications upon handover of the project and execute these deliverables during the life cycle of the project
Highlight technical risk and manage this with support from the project & engineering team
Ensure relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are met
Interpret and clarify (where necessary) the customers’ requirements
Generate and maintain project specifications/ data sheets such as equipment, installation scope of works, generate schedules be that: conveyors, compressed air, piping, valves etc along with generating & maintaining equipment lists
Review the design output throughout the full life cycle of the project ensuring that it meets the requirements
Prepare subcontract scope of work documents, raise purchase requisitions and manage subcontracted design
Create and raise purchase requisitions for major bought out components identified on the project
Determine and maintain an actionable plan to execute the engineering activity ensuring that engineering deliverables are on time and aligned with the project requirements
Identify engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented in a timely manner
Evaluate, organise and prioritise workload in line with the project schedule
Regularly do gap analysis on the design to ensure completeness of the engineering works
Work closely with the engineers and engineering functional managers to obtain progress updates and manage queries that may arise to ensure engineering deliverables are met
Responsible for scheduling and recording design reviews with engineering and technical teams
Ensure that the engineering budgets are clearly defined and followed
Ensure that the design integrity is maintained, with consideration for machine safety, manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance
Log, track and respond to client engineering issues in a timely manner
Manage any internal engineering issues that arise on the project
Maintain good communication with the customer to provide regular engineering updates and answer/ action any queries that arise, this includes attending site as required
Identify any variations to contractual scope to Project Manager as soon as identified
Provide any engineering information required for contract variations Manage any engineering non-conformance issues or change requests that arise on the project once the design has been released.
Ensure safety regulations are applied and design risk assessments carried out
Create project Health & Safety and Technical Files including any Operation and Maintenance Manual
Create and review all documentation required for CE/ UKCA marking of the project
Attendance at project reviews (internal and external), as required and present engineering elements of project
Log and communicate any lessons learned on a project to the project and engineering team
Support the Engineering and Project Manager as required
Requirements
Essential
Minimum of HNC/ HND in mechanical engineering with a recognised time served apprenticeship,
>5years in a design and/ or project engineering delivery environment, with the ability to plan, lead and manage teams effectively
Experience and understanding of heavy engineering, bespoke engineered technical solutions and process plant design including equipment selection such as, but not limited to, belt and screw conveyors, elevators, screens, crushers, shredders, filtration and pneumatic conveying systems, within the mineral, chemical and food processing industries
Proficient using 2D software drawing packages

The role requires strong technical leadership, clear and effective communication, and collaboration with stakeholders across the business to ensure project margins and business KPIs are delivered successfully. The Project Engineer should be focused on delivering clear direction on the engineering scope of supply, with a focused approach on cost, scope, quality, integrity, and compliance of the engineering output.
The role requires cross functional relationships with all departments as well as regular dialogue with the Engineering Manager and Project Managers. There will also be a requirement to support and/ or lead client meetings to ensure that scope and technical content is understood and communicated effectively and efficiently
