An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Environmental Services, Refuse Team for a Refuse Collector. You will work within a team of refuse collection operatives assisting in the safe operation of a refuse vehicle and providing a high standard refuse collection service to the residents of the East Riding.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Collecting household, industrial and commercial waste from a variety of locations e.g. domestic and commercial properties, schools, etc.
2. Transporting wheeled bins, plastic sacks, or bulk containers to the refuse collection vehicle from the premise curtilage or from the back door for pre-designated properties.
3. Completely emptying the contents into the vehicle without causing any avoidable damage, noise, or spillage.
4. Leaving the street clear of household rubbish and replacing the bins at the property/collection point, ensuring the bin does not obstruct footpaths or entrances.
5. Covering other services within streetscene services as needed.
A suitable level of fitness is required to cope with the physical demands of the job, i.e., able to walk for a minimum of 5 hours a day and the dexterity to move loaded wheeled bins. You must have the ability to work outdoors in all weathers and start work early in the morning. Initiative, good customer care, and communication skills are essential for this post.
Overtime or weekend work may be required to catch up on the refuse/recycling service after a bank holiday, due to vehicle breakdown, inclement weather, or other operational pressures. On occasions, you may be required to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank/Public Holidays, for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid. There is a requirement to work between Christmas and the New Year.
The role is based at the Willerby depot, but good local knowledge of other areas within the East Riding would be useful.
