The Breast Symptomatic clinic nursing team at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting. We require two registered nurses to join our team who are highly motivated, reliable, kind, honest, empathetic, respectful, confident, and resilient. We are a supportive and dedicated team with diverse experiences, knowledge, and skills.
The successful applicants will join a friendly, dynamic, and progressive team based within the Breast Care Unit on the Castle Hill Hospital site. You will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care within breast specialty clinics and nurse-led services. You will work under the supervision of the Junior Sister and Senior Matron and in partnership with the wider breast multidisciplinary team, including the breast surgeons.
You must be flexible in your approach to work, show evidence of effective teamwork, and excellent communication. Be adaptable, able to lead and drive change whilst ensuring patient safety is always maintained. The successful candidate will be responsible for the support and delivery of care to adult patients attending the Breast Symptomatic clinics. As a registered nurse, the post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients accessing a range of breast specialty clinics and nurse-led services. Working as a highly skilled member of the collaborative breast multidisciplinary team, the registered nurse will practice safe, effective, and efficient clinical care whilst following the HUTH NHS Trust policies.
Knowledge and Skills
Communication and Relationship Skills:
1. Supports patients and their significant others, communicates clinical information using a variety of methods.
2. Ensures information is conveyed to the patient in a timely, understandable manner.
3. Demonstrates empathy and compassion toward patients and others.
4. Develops effective relationships with patients to assist them in making decisions about their care.
5. Ensures effective communication between the multidisciplinary team, taking personal responsibility to update and share information.
6. Initial handling of complaints and staff issues in the absence of Junior Sister.
7. Provides accurate procedural information, offering patient health promotion.
Knowledge, Training, and Experience:
1. Utilises professional knowledge to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement patient care.
2. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in their field of practice, ensuring professional requirements are maintained.
3. Utilises opportunities for continuing development to provide up-to-date patient care.
4. Comprehensive understanding of breast anatomy and physiology, breast conditions, treatments, and the equipment involved.
5. Provides phone and email advice and guidance triage support, organising appropriate care for patients contacting the department.
6. Works autonomously within recognised limits during nurse-led pre-operative assessment clinic and nurse-led dressing clinic.
7. Assists clinicians with minor procedures – diagnostic and therapeutic.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility for Patient/Client Care:
1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical pathway - responsible for ensuring the patient’s treatment plan is followed.
2. Enables patients to meet daily living activities where necessary.
3. Orders and obtains samples screening, acts appropriately on results outside of acceptable ranges.
4. Identify and improve standards of care, patient safety as required.
Responsibilities for Policy and Service Development:
1. Adheres to the NMC professional code of conduct.
2. Uses their knowledge to contribute to service development and other initiatives.
Freedom to Act:
1. Works autonomously in accordance with NMC code of conduct, asking for assistance when required.
2. Uses own judgement to define day-to-day work priorities and initiates plans affecting patient care.
