We are currently looking for an Academy Team Chief Mechanic to join our Academy Team here at Williams. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the safe preparation, build, and on-time delivery of the Academy cars and equipment.
As an Academy Team Chief Mechanic, your main responsibilities will be:
1. Oversee the preparation, build and disassembly of Academy cars, both prior to and during events, ensuring the cars are finished on time to the required technical specification.
2. Manage resource within the Academy Team to ensure event and factory targets are fulfilled.
3. Liaise and work with Engineering to achieve the correct technical specification and event targets.
4. Liaise and work with the Heritage, Car Assembly and Component Assembly departments to meet event targets.
5. Liaise and work with Part and Inventory Management to ensure usage and shortages are communicated via the trackside spares person.
6. Liaise with the Power Unit supplier and personnel to meet engineering specification and event targets.
7. Liaise with the Gearbox supplier and personnel to meet engineering specification and event targets.
8. Work with the Team Coordinator and Garage Technician Team leader to meet event targets.
9. Proactively report faults and potential reliability issues via Engineering and the company fault systems.
10. Embed and maintain best working practices to improve build quality and ultimately car reliability.
11. Ensure efficient operations between the Academy Team and all Assembly areas, maintaining a positive relationship with all other Departments.
12. Maintain high standards of Team presentation and identify ways to continuously improve team and personal performance.
13. To manage the Academy Mechanics.
14. To provide coaching and mentoring and suitably role modelling desired attitudes and behaviours within the team and delivering a positive and supportive working environment.
15. Responsible for the behaviour, conduct and wellbeing of the Academy Team on and off the track to ensure the Company is presented in a professional manner. It will be required that the Williams Code of Conduct and Travelling Team handbook is developed and adhered to.
16. To work with the Team Manager to ensure skills matrices are up to date and that suitable measures are agreed and taken to close any identified gaps in skills or knowledge.
17. Work with the Team Manager recognising learning and development opportunities for individual and team development and involving relevant stakeholders.
We are looking for an Academy Team Chief Mechanic with the following skills:
18. The candidate will have an in depth understanding of fundamental engineering principles and have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by experience in motorsport, aerospace, or a related field.
19. Previous experience as a No 1 Mechanic is desirable.
20. Time and risk management skills.
21. Impeccable attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
22. A team player who is comfortable working with internal and external entities.
23. Strong interpersonal skills with courteousness, tactfulness, and professionalism.
24. Demonstrate effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities and multiple events.

*In compliance with national Secure Freight Consigner conditions, five years’ continuous employment, education and/or training must be evidenced and ay gaps exceeding 28 days accounted for. A criminal record check will also be carried out. This will be explained in more detail during interview.
