MANAGERIAL Provide effective leadership to the team. Work closely with their collages across the mental health care division Formulate and implement local clinical and operational practices and procedures as appropriate. Ensure the effective deployment of staff and other resources to deliver the required service and the agreed standards. This would involve the review and management of rotas and deployment of staff. Participate in the recruitment and selection process in accordance with Trust policy. Ensure effective induction of staff in accordance with Trust policy. Ensure exit interviews are offered to staff on leaving the organisation/ moving teams within the Trust. Manage and co-ordinate all services delivered to the service user within the clinical area, optimising all available resources. Ensure the implementation, monitoring and updating of an operational policy / pathways and philosophy for the clinical area. Ensure the principles of Clinical Governance are incorporated in service delivery by maintaining a high quality service based on agreed clinical standards. Ensure that service users are cared for within the confines of their respective Mental Health Act status and adhere to the requirements of the MHA 1983 and the corresponding Code of Practice. Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by all staff within their scope of responsibility. Develop local protocols involving team members and acute trust to ensure a high standard of service delivery is achieved and maintained. Lead and ensure staff participation in the formulation of new ideas/ suggestions to improve service user care and service delivery. Lead on and participate in the performance monitoring of services in accordance with national and local targets. Provide statistical information on workforce and service user activity as required. Assist in the maintenance and updating of the teams equipment inventories and services schedules. Ensure regular servicing, maintenance, repair or replacement as required adhering to Health & Safety, COSHH and Medical Devices Agency regulations. Ensure effective processes of communication are established, maintained and regularly evaluated within designated team. Maintain and monitor a framework for risk management and Health and Safety that ensures timely and effective planning and appropriate actions. Investigate complaints and incidents in accordance with Trust policy. Undertake Serious Untoward Incident investigations/reviews as required. Ensure that all staff are regularly updated and have knowledge of all emergency procedures. Active participation in multidisciplinary decision-making process regarding patient care in the capacity of an autonomous clinician. CLINICAL To lead the development of the Service and ensure a high level of clinical leadership within the given area of expertise to other staff within the Service. To provide a specialist liaison mental health screening assessment, including risk assessment and differential diagnosis, using diagnostic criteria, assessment tools and rating scales. Independently assess, plan and identify mental health needs, facilitate appropriate care and treatment. Non-Medical Prescribing: Registered practitioners who are Non-Medical Prescribers are accountable for their prescribing activities by ensuring they are aware of their professional accountability and any restrictions or special considerations in their prescribing practice. Qualified Non-Medical Prescribers must register their qualification with their Professional Body and with the Trust Database in accordance with the Trust Non-Medical Prescribing procedure. Supplementary prescribers must work within Clinical Management Plans in close association with a medical practitioner. To acting in a consultative capacity as a specialist mental health clinician within the general hospital setting and team, to include advice on medication and contributing to diagnosis. Supporting the development of a skilled and flexible workforce, supporting junior staff to achieve their full potential in line with the Liaison Competency and Nursing career framework. Take an active role in education in line with key performance indicators To develop and maintain partnership working with a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies. Effective and autonomous management of clinical caseload. Making unsupervised decisions in respect of patients clinical priority and the suitability for inclusion into and discharge from specialist mental health services. To act in accordance with infection control policies of the Trust due to frequent exposure to and contact with infectious conditions and substances. Advise on manual transferring, mobilising and transporting of patients. Give/receive regular clinical supervision as per Trust policy. COMMUNICATION AND ORGANISATIONAL To engage in a high level of communication with Senior Management both in the Trust and services in the community. The post holder will be pivotal in ensuring the co-ordination of multiple services to ensure discharges are appropriate and facilitated in a timely manner, and will be organise, manage and develop comprehensive discharge plans with community services. To deal effectively with issues which are frequently confrontational and complex requiring the use of skills in sensitivity, diplomacy and negotiation. Adapt communication to take account of others culture, background and preferred way of communicating. Provide feedback to others on their communication where appropriate shares and engages thinking with others. Maintain the highest standards of integrity when communicating with patients and the wider public EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT Organise and undertake ward based teaching where appropriate ensuring that the environment is suitable for student nurse placements. Lead and support the implementation of evidence based practice in line with current research. Work closely with Education Facilitator to assist skills acquisition and facilitate workforce planning and development. Coordinate preceptorship and mentorship for all staff including those in training. Demonstrate the acquisition and application of knowledge in line with current research and evidence-based practice. Undertake appropriate continuing professional development. Promote a positive learning environment by contributing to teaching, training and supervision of junior staff and learners within the organisation. Provide evidence to support development around the Trust Appraisal system which may include the KSF or other competency profiles. Design and deliver an ongoing programme of formal mental health education in conjunction with post graduate teaching department to all professional staff within the acute hospital setting. Provide regular service awareness sessions for staff across hospital settings. Provide evidence to support development around the Trust appraisal system which includes KSF. Participate in regular supervision, engage in reflective practice and be committed to continued development. Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others. SERVICE DEVELOPMENT To develop, implement and review liaison service operational policies. To ensure both Trusts receive outcome monitoring data. To establish implement and review patient care pathways/protocols and practice guidelines. To develop competencies in self and which safeguard practice and effectiveness of role. Effectively manage allocated/available resources. To complete six monthly statistical review of service activity and report to service manager. Contribute to strategic forums as directed. RESEARCH AUDIT Ensure staff awareness of Clinical and Corporate Governance and the need for research-based practice. Undertake and participate in appropriate audit, quality assurance programmes and research as directed.
