The role of the Product Development Engineer who will be reporting to Engineering Senior Management, develops new or updated shipping containers to meet customer requirements. This role is the technical lead during projects to create or update specialized products. Job Duties • Lead and participate in design projects, delivering innovative packaging solutions that break the current industry trends • Impact project development through technical expertise, project planning, project management, and presentations to both internal and external groups • Create prototype designs using 3D CAD software and physical product prototypes to support design decisions, product promotion, usage and general product development. • Manage external and internal dependencies to maintain standards of design output. These include but not be limited to: o Tooling design approval o Acceptance criteria for new products and / or materials o Drawing control o Validation of product design through the Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis process (DFMEA) • Validate cold chain shipping containers designs by setting up and conducting mechanical / thermal simulations • Cost packaging components and final products for business viability assessments • Maintain technical documentation to support business decision making. • Prepare laboratory tests using approved process, equipment, and materials o Provide advice to suppliers and manufacturing partners where required in respect of Material specifications, acceptable design tolerances, manufacturing processes • Liaise with internal legal counsel and patent attorneys to develop patent applications. • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance with the job. • Performs additional duties as assigned. This is a site-based role, located in Leighton Buzzard. Commutable from Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Luton, Northamptonshire and surrounding areas.
