Position: Data Cabling Engineer (Team of 2)
Location: West Midlands (site-to-site, retail roll-outs)
Contract Duration: 6 months
Pay Rate: £180 per day per person
Start Date: Immediate
Role Overview
We are looking for a team of two experienced Data Cabling Engineers to join a 6-month retail rollout project in the North West. This project involves upgrading existing Cat5e networks to Cat6a, including all modules, while working site-to-site on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities:
* Follow the provided drawings and instructions.
* Take direction from a remote Project Manager (PM) overseeing the area.
* Conduct upgrades and installations on retail sites week-by-week.
Requirements
* Proven experience in data cabling, especially with Cat6a upgrades.
* Ability to work effectively as a team of two.
* Own reliable transport (essential).
* Proficient in reading technical drawings and following remote instructions.

Key Job Description:
1. Installation Skills
Cable Routing:
Run cables neatly through walls, ceilings, conduits, or cable trays.
Avoid sharp bends or excessive pulling on cables.
Securing Cables:
Use Velcro ties or clips to maintain organized and tidy installations.
Setting Up Equipment:
Install patch panels, outlets, and racks.
2. Termination Skills
Connectors and Jacks:
Properly attach RJ45 connectors and keystone jacks.
Follow T568A or T568B wiring standards.
Patch Panels:
Use a punch-down tool to terminate cables accurately.
3. Testing Skills
Basic Testing:
Check for continuity and proper connections.
Certification Testing:
Use a cable tester to ensure installations meet Cat6a standards.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve issues like loose connections or miswiring.
4. Other Essential Skills
Reading Diagrams:
Follow technical network drawings and instructions accurately.
Tools Use:
Familiarity with basic tools like crimpers, testers, and punch-down tools.
Work Neatly:
Keep installations tidy and properly labelled.
