Service Director, Corporate Property & Assets

The Service Director, Corporate Property & Assets, will be accountable for the performance of the Corporate Property & Assets service area and the delivery of high-quality strategic aims. The Services the new role will be responsible for are Facilities Management, Construction and Planned and Reactive Maintenance. This is a key position which supports the Corporate Director for Communities to deliver the desired culture and aims of the Council.
About the role
As the Service Director, Corporate Property & Assets, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational management, and financial control for our Corporate Property & Assets service areas. You will ensure high performance and alignment with the Council's goals, embedding a customer-focused culture, managing relationships with partners, staying updated on trends, and efficiently managing budgets and resources.
You will be an active member of the Communities senior leadership team, with collective responsibility for the managerial leadership of the function. Your role will involve driving transformational organisational change, promoting the values and behaviours of the council, and fostering excellent relationships with members, customers, and partners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Corporate Property & Assets service areas.
2. Ensure close collaborative working with the Service Director of Commercial Property and Regeneration.
3. Ensure high performance and alignment with the Council's goals.
4. Embed a customer-focused culture and act as a role model for engaging and empowering customers.
5. Manage relationships with partners and create strong, positive working relationships.
6. Stay abreast of new trends, legislation, and best practices to develop innovative solutions.
7. Manage budgets and resources efficiently, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and income generation.
About you
We are looking for an individual with substantial experience in a similar role, preferably in a large public sector organisation, and possess a relevant degree or professional qualification. You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of successfully developing and delivering an effective assurance and governance function, managing significant budgets, and leading transformational organisational change. Extensive knowledge of the national policy context, regulatory environment, and financial legislation is essential. Additionally, you should have the ability to manage significant budgets and deliver services within agreed resources.
