Are you a structural CAD technician who is looking to work with highly unusual building structures?
We're looking for a creative individual with solid CAD skills and sound knowledge of how a building comes together.
I'm working with a prestigious structural engineering consultancy which has recently won a series of groundbreaking local schemes. We are specifically looking for a Structural Technician who wishes to push their career forward in a challenging and technical environment, someone who wants to be actively involved in the problem-solving aspects of this practice's flagship projects.
This business handles a variety of projects across all traditional sectors, and they also specialise in bespoke schemes with individual and unique requirements. Such examples would include the conversion of industrial equipment into habitable spaces. The office currently has several talented teams of technical staff, with each team assigned to a different type of engineering, which is a clear indicator of a healthy pipeline and sizable share of the local market. The idea is for candidates to grow with the business, which would be beneficial for everyone involved.
Projects have included:
1. Arguably the most prestigious residence in the world
2. The conversion of industrial and agricultural buildings and machinery into unique dwellings
3. Iconic historic structures
4. £16M Refurbishment of Grade 1 listed building + £3M new entrance building. The scheme involves both refurbishment of a remarkable Grade I listed architectural icon and the addition of a significant, contemporary new-build extension, incorporating three-storey glass curtain walling suspended from a cantilevering steel skeleton. The application of photogrammetry has enabled the modelling of this staggeringly complex historic building and explain structural concepts to the team and client. The project is BIM Level 2 coordinated between consultants.
5. £2.5M Refurbishment of Grade 2* listed building, contemporary insertion within existing market hall providing library and council facilities, “Community Hub”.
6. £2.5M Refurbishment of Grade 2* listed building into community arts/performance space.
The business is constantly evolving its methods of working, becoming increasingly familiar and proficient with three-dimensional analysis and detailing.
This role requires a technician with excellent CAD skills and who has a solid idea of how a building comes together, including the buildability of projects.
We are looking for an experienced structural technician who is able or willing to:
1. Manage their own workload
2. Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants and develop relationships
3. Assist in the delivery of projects
4. Aid with the development of junior staff
5. Produce structural models and drawings
6. Adhere to best practices
7. Deliver projects in a timely fashion and assist on larger schemes
8. Contribute with knowledge of the design process
This practice offers exciting and interesting work, a flexible and understanding approach to family and personal commitments with an informal flexi-time arrangement. Support and motivation towards achieving personal development and career goals. Autonomy and responsibility for projects.
