Head of Education Programmes for Young People (EPYP) Derwentside College
Welcome to Derwentside College, a truly inspiring and vibrant general further education college on a mission to provide high-quality education and training that shapes the future and transforms lives.
* Location: Consett, County Durham
About the role
Reporting to our Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Alex Muir, our new Head of EPYP will join us at a time when we are experiencing considerable growth across our 16-19 provision. We currently have just over 400 learners in these programmes. With this growth comes a greater need for us to work with our students and our stakeholders to best understand their current needs and future aspirations. By gaining this understanding, you will use your abilities to engage our stakeholders and work with colleagues across a range of programme areas, including Maths and English, Professional Services, IT and Digital, Health and Social Care and our Foundation Learning provision for our learners with SEND.
As an outcomes-driven leader, you will use your experience to develop a curriculum underpinned by our quality assurance data and in line with our college growth strategy whilst being mindful of efficiently utilising the resources available to you.
Alongside your curriculum responsibilities, you will also lead our Student Services team, overseeing the wider personal development, behaviour and attitudes of our learners. Finally, you will serve as the College’s primary Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supported by Deputy DSLs.
Who we are looking for
This role will require a strong understanding – and successful track record – of developing and delivering high-quality 16-19 study programmes, preferably with experience gained in one or more of the curriculum areas we currently deliver.
You will be able to define what outstanding provision looks like. Using your track record as a successful curriculum leader, you will bring credibility to an already well-established and ambitious team.
Your experience and strong leadership skills will allow you to drive your team forward. You will motivate them to take ownership of their curriculums, holding them to high standards, stretching and challenging their abilities to drive up both quality and achievement, whilst supporting them to find solutions to barriers.
You will possess a strong understanding of the importance of delivering high-quality support to students. Previous experience in delivering or overseeing student support, pastoral and/or enrichment activities is essential.
Finally, as one of our DSLs, it is vital that candidates possess a strong, current working knowledge of the national safeguarding agenda and associated policies, preferably with additional experience in operational safeguarding.
Peridot Partners and Derwentside College are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
