Paediatric Clinical Psychologist Sickle Cell
We are excited to advertise this new psychology post. The post-holder, in collaboration with a range of MDT colleagues, will support improvements to service delivery within community services for children and young people living in North East London (NEL) with sickle cell disease.
This post is part of a project funded by NHS England for a period of two years, with the aim of developing 'end-to-end' pathway support for people living with sickle cell disease, to ensure the needs of sickle cell disease patients are being met.
We are looking for a paediatric clinical psychologist who is passionate about tackling health inequalities and improving access to care for those who are least well served by health services, and who has experience in working with children and young people with chronic health conditions and their families.
The role will be multifaceted and varied. Initially, the focus will be on mapping and developing psychological care pathways for children and young people with sickle cell disorder in the community and supporting the systems around patients in the community to promote psychology and mental health well-being as an integral part of chronic disease management.
The role will also include direct clinical work, including assessments and interventions for children and families and developing group work for parents and children.
Main duties of the job
To lead and develop a psychological service for children and young people with sickle cell and thalassaemia across North East London. The post will involve working closely and in collaboration with existing haematology services across the patch, and families of young people with sickle cell, to understand their psychological needs and develop a service and pathways based on this. This will include mapping and making links with existing services and improving access to local mental health or voluntary sector organisations.
The post holder will offer a psychological service including assessment (and neuropsychological assessment within postholder's competencies) interventions and liaison to children and young people with sickle cell and their families where psychological issues are impacting a young person's care or well-being. The post holder will also work with the wider team through consultation, teaching and training to support the delivery of psychologically informed care to all children and young people with sickle cell and develop group interventions for families and young people (for instance around pain management or supporting a child with chronic illness for parents).
The post holder will also contribute to audit of outcomes of the psychological service to understand psychology provision needed longer term and support with securing funding for this.
