The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is looking to recruit x3 wte Consultant Geriatricians to join our existing Department for Medicine of the Elderly (DME) team as we build on our recent expansion and successes. Part-time applications will be considered to enable us to reach our required establishment.
The organisation was formed on 1st July 2018 to bring together our five Hospitals in Derby, Burton, Lichfield, and Tamworth to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire.
The post holders’ base will either be at Royal Derby Hospital, at Queen's Hospital Burton, or could be a combination of the two.
DME at UHDB has developed and expanded considerably over the past 5 years. At the Royal Derby Hospital site, there are 16 Consultants and 4 Acute Inpatient Geriatric Wards, and at Queen’s Hospital, Burton, we have 3 Consultants and 2 Acute Inpatient Geriatric Wards.
The Derby-based Parkinson's Team was awarded a National Parkinson Foundation Centre of Excellence status by the NPF in 2011 and is accredited until 2026. Our nationally recognized multidisciplinary movement disorder clinic is led by Dr. Skelly, and we are seeking to develop the service at Burton with a dedicated Senior Clinical Fellow for Parkinson's Disease.
The Department’s Academic Lead is Professor Adam Gordon, current President of the British Geriatrics Society. His appointment has enhanced the varied research options within the Department and allowed us to establish a Geriatric Liaison service to provide in-reach services throughout the Trust, specifically supporting General Surgery and their emergency laparotomy patients in line with the NELA guidance. The Department is looking to expand these services over the next few years.
The Burton-based team provides specialist clinics in falls, fracture prevention, syncope, and orthogeriatrics.
As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognize the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people, and local partners in achieving the best health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.
