The Role
As Head of English, you will lead on curriculum planning, teaching and learning, assessment, and staff development within the department. You will work closely with SLT to ensure consistent, high standards of teaching, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and promoting a love of English at all key stages.
You’ll also mentor colleagues, oversee exam performance, and contribute to whole-school literacy initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
* Be an outstanding English teacher with leadership experience (e.g., 2nd in Department, KS lead)
* Have a proven track record of raising standards and improving student outcomes
* Be highly knowledgeable in the English curriculum across KS3–KS5
* Demonstrate excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organisational skills
* Be committed to creating an inclusive, ambitious, and high-achieving learning environment
* Be passionate about literature, language, and helping students find their voice
