A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced RCVS registered Student Veterinary Nurse or RVN to join an excellent nursing team at a well-established, independent small animal hospital in the thriving market town of Bedford. This RCVS accredited practice has been providing expert animal care since the 1950s and has expanded its services to include small animal and exotics care. Recognised for excellence, the practice has received multiple awards, including Best UK Vets in Bedfordshire and Silver status from the RWAF, alongside Cat Friendly Status from the ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic.
As an approved training practice for veterinary nurses, the hospital offers a wealth of support from a team of experienced RVN Clinical Coaches who are passionate about sharing their knowledge. Nurses are fully involved in all aspects of patient care, from general anaesthesia and diagnostics to emergency and critical care, hospital and day patient care, exotics nursing and husbandry, lab work, pharmacy, and nurse clinics. This role is ideal for an experienced student nurse looking to develop their skills and confidence across a wide range of disciplines, with the assurance of experienced support available both during the day and out of hours.
The hospital has continuously evolved to incorporate state-of-the-art technology, featuring high-quality digital x-ray, ultrasound and doppler, flexible and rigid endoscopes, ECG and blood pressure monitoring, cardiology, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. Facilities include a dedicated cat waiting area, two operating theatres, a diagnostic suite, a separate exotics ward, and much more.
This is a full-time position with a varied rota that includes a combination of out-of-hours, day and night shifts, and weekend work on a six-week rotation. During on-call shifts, veterinary nurses stay on-site in a self-contained accommodation unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with both pet owners and the veterinary team. Experience in a hospital environment is highly desirable, though not essential, and familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment is an advantage.
