Job description We are currently recruiting experienced full time support staff to work with Jacob, a gentleman living in the Wishaw area of North Lanarkshire. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced support worker looking to develop their already existing support skills and to be involved in helping Jacob enjoy life and develop. "I am Jacob, and I am 70 years old. I have been told I am cheeky with a wicked sense of humour that can make anyone laugh. I am a thoughtful individual who just loves to socialize and meet new people. I am a sporting fanatic and enjoy watching all areas of sports, my favourite at present is wrestling, football and snooker. I enjoy things which can make me laugh like comedies and movies or any form of social interaction with people I have built relationships up with. I am a big lover of music, mainly Irish music I have been told I am a great singer. I am an animal lover; I have my pet budgie who is a big part of my life. My home is extremely important to me and having it kept neat, tidy, and well-maintained. I always choose all the furnishings and decor myself as I have really good taste. I appreciate my own space at times, and I am not keen on big crowds with a lot of people. I enjoy the comfort of my own home, but I need to build up a relationship with people first to feel comfortable with them in my home. It can take a while for me to get to know and be comfortable with you. I live with a slight learning disability and suffered a stroke quite some time ago, this means I struggle with my mobility and have no dexterity in my right hand. As I did not attend school, I cannot read, write, or understand written information without help so you need to be patient with me. SOL has helped my build and grow my confidence to get out in the world, now I love socializing I have a wheelchair and a mobility car which I make use of as often as I can. I need support to transfer to and from my chair, preparing meals and all other aspects of my daily life routine." What am I looking for: Someone who is confident and outgoing. Someone who is reliable and consistent. Someone who has a good sense of humour. Someone who is a good motivator and has a “can do” attitude. Minimum of 1 year care experience. Clean Driving Licence Preferred. Shifts are on a 2-week rota as follows: Week 1 – 8:30am-2:30pm and one 9am-7pm (days to be confirmed) Week 2 – 8:30am - 2:30pm (days to be confirmed) There will be the opportunity to do overtime during team holiday times. Main Tasks To provide person centred care and support to the people Support for Ordinary Living work for in line with the mission, vision, and values of the organisation the support worker role will: Support an individual to live in their own home/ family home and help the individual live the lifestyle they choose. Assist with personal care for example bathing where applicable. Encourage and support people to make life choices. Support individual to safeguard their property/ health & wellbeing/ finances and take appropriate action, when necessary, call NHS 24 or Doctor in case of emergency. Support people to become a valued member of their local community and support and encourage them to maintain and develop relationships with their friends, their family, and their neighbours. Encourage and support people to get involved in social activities. Assist people with domestic tasks such as housework, shopping cooking and cleaning. Treat people with dignity and respect at all times and recognise their rights to make their own choices. Support the individual to meet their outcomes in line with their Outcome based support plan and plan for the future. To work as part as a Self-Directed team, working in a consistent and flexible manner to support the individual to meet the outcomes outlined in the outcome-based support plan. Adhere to SOL’s policies and procedures to attend all planned meetings / training as requested. Be an ambassador to SOL, safeguarding the positive image and reputation of the organisation.
