Middlesbrough Council is making great progress delivering its ambitious economic plans with exciting physical regeneration projects and unprecedented new housing growth and associated highway related schemes. Ensuring that this growth occurs in a managed way, to high standards whilst minimising disruption is essential in achieving this, and we need a Principal Engineer to assist.
About the role
This is a senior Civil Engineer role within the Highways environment, where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in a number of different specialisms and projects whilst delivering a defined role.
Duties will be both office and site-based across various schemes and disciplines.
You will manage 2 Project Engineers, designing council highway schemes, and overseeing on-site delivery with other officers, to be a part of multi-disciplinary teams working across the Council to deliver major housing sites, the Council’s capital programme, and the regional CRSTS programme in partnership with Tees Valley Combined Authority.
This role involves solving problems and devising solutions by coordinating works through internal and external stakeholders together with office tasks under the Highways Act and tracking project financials.
The post requires you to hold a degree qualification in a relevant subject such as Civil Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in a related role.
About the successful candidate
We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality schemes, who can demonstrate a "can-do" attitude with a creative approach to problem-solving. You will have experience in highway design, auditing technical construction drawings, delivering highway construction works on-site, and providing solutions to problems as they arise. Experience and detailed knowledge of Highway Design and construction/materials is a key part of the role.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Civil Engineer who takes pride in finding creative solutions and leading a small team to make Middlesbrough a better place to live, work, and do business in.
