We are looking for an IT helpdesk engineer to join our team primarily based in the Wigan office but with some field work. We work in main areas IT support, managed internet services and managed security infrastructure.

Key Aspects of the Job
1. Record any IT issues raised into a helpdesk system (Issues may be raised by phone, email, helpdesk ticket, monitoring software).
2. Resolve the issues with the agreed SLA and update the helpdesk system.
3. Configure & install IT hardware, software or services either onsite or on customer premise.
4. Give advice / training to customers on the best use of their IT systems.
5. Ensure that customers systems/servers/backups are running at their best and recommend any changes required.
6. Ensure that IT issues are progressed through to closure.
7. Design, install and maintain IT networks, including desktops, laptops, servers, routers, wireless networks, backup systems, antivirus solutions, software, switches, WAN connections, email systems, web hosting, VPN solutions, cloud-based solutions, campus wide networks, lease lines, DSL circuits, custom software, VOIP, smart phones, multi-tenanted internet access.
8. Keep abreast with new technologies and software updates.
9. Install new software and hardware (servers, printers, computer work stations etc).
10. Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords.
11. Oversee security of all systems, especially the internet.
12. Install anti-virus protection.
13. Fix network faults.
14. Provide technical support for people using the network.
15. Train staff/customers on new systems.
16. Conduct day to day admin and monitoring of network use.
17. Plan future improvements.
18. Suggest IT solutions to business problems.
19. Ensure all IT meets industry standards.
20. Supervise helpdesk staff.
Skills / Qualifications
1. Good personal presentation and communication skills.
2. Experience of desktop support – Setup of Windows/Mac based hardware for clients, diagnosing and resolving desktop issues.
3. Microsoft Office 365 setup / administration.
4. Server based – installation, configuration, Active Directory, group policies, hyper-v, DNS, DHCP.
5. Network setup – Installation and configuration of network switches, including routing, VLANs, Cisco, Meraki and Ubiquiti.
6. Internet connectivity – Using 4G, FTTC/DSL, Ethernet /Lease lines.
7. Firewall configuration to best practices; experience in Mikrotik, Draytek products an advantage.
8. Switch configuration – VLANs, Spanning tree, IP Routing.
9. Hosted VOIP.
10. Wireless setup and fault finding – Experience of Ubiquiti, Meraki or similar.
11. Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, customer services, and clear telephone skills, with a full clean UK driving license.
12. Data cabling experience would be a bonus.

7. Salary: £25k to £30k depending on experience.
8. Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, some out of hours work may be required.
