Support a team of Principal and Senior Engineers as a member of a cross-functional team on a number of diverse and challenging thermal management and motion control component and system projects for aerospace & defence, oil & gas and rail applications. Typical products are fans, heaters, cooling systems, heat exchangers, actuators, with more extensive designs featuring control systems.
Participate proactively in various development projects to ensure that the design meets technical, cost, quality, and timescale requirements. Managing a number of smaller projects and/or contributing to larger projects, with guidance from an assigned Senior or Principal Engineer.
Support legacy equipment in the field in terms of ongoing technical support to our customer base over the operating life of the system. Producing strip Investigation reports on returned equipment returned under warranty.
Be actively involved with development activity to support the rollout of our technology roadmap.
The role offers the opportunity for career progression towards Senior Engineer and subsequently to Principal Engineer.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Close cooperation with the project Senior/Principal Engineer to ensure the product meets customer’s technical specification, and any other quality or regulatory requirements such as those associated with aircraft airworthiness.
2. Perform or verify analytical models to ensure design concept meets technical specification.
3. Involvement with prototype unit design and build.
4. Production of development, qualification and production acceptance test specifications, qualification test schedules and reports.
5. Participate in the design review process both at on site meetings and on occasion at customer facilities.
6. Test and test rig definition in advance of prototyping and as part of production readiness process.
7. Support of customer evaluation of prototypes, on occasion at customer site.
8. Effective problem solving to resolve product functional issues as they arise throughout the development lifecycle.
9. Timely production support to resolve build and test issues on the shop floor.
10. Work consistently to the requirements set out within the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Other Responsibilities/Non-essential Functions:
1. Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the role manager.
2. Undertake all other reasonable requests that are made by the role manager/acting manager or Directors.
3. At times of reduced department staff attendance there will be a need to be flexible and provide support outside of the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction.
4. On occasion you may be required to take on ad hoc duties which includes, but is not limited to training, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments.
5. No staff management responsibility, however, guidance will need to be given to other members of the team at times of planned absence such as annual leave.
