PURPOSE OF POST:
The post holder will be a positive role model for students, actively supporting the school's ethos and participating in self-evaluation and development. They will promote a constructive atmosphere that encourages problem-solving and conflict resolution, applying principles of effective leadership. This role includes teaching and learning responsibilities in designated subject areas.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Carry out professional duties as identified in the 'School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.'
* Engage in planning that meets the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and those with unique gifts and talents.
* Act as a subject specialist, monitoring and assessing policy and teaching strategies while collaborating with colleagues.
* Monitor pupil progress, maintaining appropriate records and using data to inform targets and lesson planning.
* Contribute to the school's appraisal process and participate in their own appraisal.
* Support the school's pastoral system within the year group and class.
* Assist in deploying support staff and resources effectively within the class.
* Actively participate in the school community and encourage collaboration among staff, pupils, parents, and carers.
* Comply with school policies related to assessment, behaviour management, and communication with parents.
* Maintain good behaviour in the classroom and throughout the school, addressing unacceptable behaviour according to the Behaviour Policy.
* Pursue personal professional development, staying informed about national and local educational developments.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR POST - THRESHOLD (UPS) TEACHERS:
* Contribute to the performance management process by coaching and mentoring colleagues, including PGCE/ITT/OTT students.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
* Be aware of personal responsibility for Health, Safety, and Welfare.
* Cooperate with the employer on Health, Safety, and Welfare issues.
* Work flexibly to support staff and pupils during crises.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
* Take responsibility for personal professional development, staying updated with teaching pedagogy and curriculum changes.
* Undertake professional development identified in the School Improvement Plan, maximizing relevant training opportunities.
* Maintain a portfolio of evidence for the Performance Management process.
SAFEGUARDING:
This position requires an enhanced criminal record disclosure and prohibition order check. It is essential to disclose any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs, or cautions. This post is exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose convictions will result in dismissal. A pending charge or conviction will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from consideration. Disclosures are handled per the Safeguarding Code of Practice.

* Experience: Teaching in the relevant subject area; working with children with English as an Additional Language.
* Skills/Abilities: Able to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, use IT to support the curriculum, work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning, identify resources for high-quality teaching, assess individual needs for lesson planning, and deliver high-quality lessons.
* Competencies: Motivation to work with young people; ability to form appropriate relationships with young people; emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours; appropriate attitudes to maintaining discipline.
* Equality Issues: Commitment to inclusive teaching; awareness of discrimination effects.
* Specialist Knowledge: Subject/KS knowledge.
