An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Practice Development Team within Theatres at UHNM.
The post holder will be based within the peri-operative environment across site. The post holder will be an enthusiastic, proactive role model who leads in the clinical environment on the provision of clinical skills and education. In addition to facilitating support and education for students and colleagues, the successful candidate will be passionate about safe, effective patient care, in accordance with NMC/HCPC standards and Trust policies and procedures.
You will have at least three years experience within the peri-operative environment, two years at Band 6. You are a strong team player with extensive knowledge of scrub and/or anaesthetic practice. Along with your colleagues in the Theatre Practice Development Team, you will be required to identify learning needs and develop targeted teaching programmes and learning activities to facilitate safe clinical environments.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide visible, accessible support and education to staff, acting as an expert role model to ensure excellence and effectiveness of all clinical/surgical practice.
2. To create a safe, supportive learning environment which facilitates innovative approaches to patient care and nursing practice, in order to improve the quality of care given.
3. To coordinate multidisciplinary learning in the clinical environment, ensuring the Trust safety agenda is promoted and embedded through induction, preceptorship and training. Provision of face to face statutory and mandatory training where required as part of the Team rota, across all our multidisciplinary teams within Theatres.
4. Work closely with the Theatre Quality Leads to action improvements and initiatives.
5. Assist the Clinical Education and Placement Facilitator in supporting the educational needs of Students on Theatre placement.
6. You will be required to keep accurate and timely training records of all activities undertaken.
7. You will promote reflective practice, clinical supervision and personal action for quality improvement.

1. To promote high quality clinical care in accordance with the NMC/HCPC and University Hospital North Midlands Trust.
2. Provide visible, accessible leadership to staff and act as an expert role-model to ensure the excellence and effectiveness of all clinical/surgical practice.
3. To create and support a safe learning environment which facilitates innovative approaches to patient care and nursing practice in order to improve the quality of care given.
4. To inspire, motivate and empower others to provide highly specialised clinical competence and standards, and demonstrate expert competence in a surgical environment with highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of procedures and practices within our Theatre areas.
5. Demonstrate the ability to share clinical knowledge and skills with learners and colleagues in both classroom and clinical settings. Deliver training packages as part of statutory and mandatory training, assist accessibility of ESR packages, and facilitate learning for specialised equipment training. Uses feedback and reflection to continually improve the teaching and training provided to our Theatre Team.
6. To be able to lead and deputise when required, in the absence of the Band 7 Practice Development Lead for Theatres.
7. Evidence of teaching and assessing experience and an appropriate qualification, with a commitment to the on-going development of all non-medical colleagues.
8. Experience of motivating staff and team building, with experience of appraisal, career conversations and performance management of colleagues.
9. Understanding and experience of implementing research-based practice. Support the clinical area, ensuring protocols, policies and procedures are adhered to and provide a service to the agreed standard which meets organisational and national targets.
10. To maintain confidentiality at all times and to support staff, patients, relatives and carers.
11. To recognise, resolve or take action in situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients and colleagues.
12. To report all incidents/adverse events in a timely manner in accordance with Trust policy.
13. Respond in emergency situations with composure, maintaining patient safety and appropriately escalating care, whilst providing full support to patients and colleagues as required.
14. To ensure all training records are kept in a legible, accurate and contemporaneous way, maintain and upload to digital records as required.
15. Evidence of personal time management skills.
16. Developed / Enhanced IT skills.
17. Effective communication, interpersonal, organisational and planning skills.
18. Compliance with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), COSHH, Manual Handling, clinical equipment competency, risk management, Data protection Acts and patient confidentiality at all times.
