Purpose of Role: As an Engineering Assistant Manager, you will support the Site Manager in running an efficient and effective engineering operation. Your role ensures high-quality service delivery, meeting PVR requirements, adhering to budget constraints, and maintaining core KPIs and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Health & Safety: Lead by example in adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a secure working environment. Monitor contractor sign-in and enforce safety practices.
2. Operational Leadership: Supervise and motivate the team to perform efficient and safe vehicle maintenance and repairs. Ensure resource availability and proper documentation of work.
3. Customer Service: Guarantee daily peak vehicle requirements and maintain vehicles to exceed statutory standards.
4. Quality Assurance: Assist in ensuring vehicle availability meets contractual obligations. Supervise mechanical and electrical engineers, identifying training needs and maintaining high-quality standards.
5. People Management: Handle staff management including recruitment, performance reviews, training, and employee relations. Ensure adherence to company policies and union agreements.
6. Continuous Improvement: Promote waste reduction and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency.
Requirements:
7. Strong engineering background with experience in heavy vehicle maintenance, repair, and overhaul, preferably in the Bus/HGV industry.
8. Recognised apprenticeship or vocational qualification in a relevant engineering field. Degree or diploma in engineering/vehicle maintenance is advantageous.
9. Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and the ability to lead by example.
10. Proven leadership and team supervision skills.
11. Attention to detail with strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
12. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with all staff levels.
13. Experience working with Trade Union representatives.
