Job summary The Special Schools Nursing Network collaborates with special schools to ensure that children with complexhealth needs can safely access their education. Working as a network strengthens the capacity within thenursing service, ensuring training and competency assessments of school staff are prioritised and effectivelydelivered across designated schools. This is achieved through training and assessing the competencies ofschool staff, who provide hands-on care to meet the health needs of children and young people. The nursingteam will work across the network to ensure there is a shared workforce that can meet the safety needs of allchildren within the designated special schools.The Special Schools Nurses triage and assess to identify any health tasks that can be delegated to school staff,who are then trained, supervised, and competency-assessed to deliver the health tasks This supervision andobservation continues throughout the year, ensuring school staff feel supported and remain competent.Additionally, staff receive updated training and their competency is reassessed annually or sooner if required. Main duties of the job The post holder should possess strong clinical skills to deliver training and competency assessments. Youmust be able to present power point presentations and clinical skills demonstrations to varied audiences, fromone-to-one sessions to small or large groups, including whole-school groups. You will also need to answerqueries as well as signpost to other services or professionals when appropriate.Empathy towards children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, along withexcellent communication skills, are essential qualities for the post holder.
