About us
The Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB) is a research-intensive Division within the Faculty of Life Sciences, with an international reputation for research excellence in cell and tissue biology and innovative education programmes. The LMCB provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment, housed in a single building, where staff and students work together to understand the fundamental principles of cell and tissue biology relevant to human disease.
About the role
The LMCB is seeking to appoint an Operations Officer. The postholder will be based on the main UCL campus in Bloomsbury. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our small team to provide support to the research in the division. The post holder will have responsibility for management of ACDP Category 2 virus lab facility, including statutory weekly H&S checks, risk assessment reviews, oversight of laboratory core equipment maintenance, purchasing of equipment and negotiating cost of repairs and maintenance contracts. This position is offered on a permanent basis and 100% on site. The role meets the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you
The successful candidate will ideally have experience with health and safety checks, audits of laboratory facilities, troubleshooting any faults and emergencies where an immediate repair is needed. The successful candidate will also help with laboratory checks, facilitate monthly checks and reports, including radioactive material data reports and safety checks on safety cabinets, fire safety equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment. Part of the role is also overseeing redistribution of liquid nitrogen to various containers at LMCB and line managing the Store officer and two Laboratory technicians. Previous experience with assisting operations managers within a building with multiple research labs is desirable. This job can be physically demanding, so the appointee needs to be able to be on their feet for a good part of the day.
