Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
We are pleased to offer two 'CBT for Personality Disorder' training posts in BCHFT, Mental Health Division, planned care services. These are full-time, band 6, training posts open to any qualified mental health worker (e.g., nurse, AHP, SW) who is professionally registered and working at band 6 or above.
The roles are funded by NHSE for 2 years at the training grade. During this time, successful candidates will undertake CBT training via University College London (1 - 2 days per week) while also working in either the Wolverhampton or Walsall CMHTs in BCHFT on non-university days.
Successful completion of the 2-year post-graduate diploma at UCL will automatically result in employment as a band 7 CBT (for PD) therapist in BCHFT community services.
Main Duties of the Job
You will undertake core CBT training in your first year of the UCL course and practice your skills in one of our CMHT services. These training posts are specifically offered across either Wolverhampton or Walsall services. In year 2 of the UCL course, you will focus more on the application of CBT skills with people who have a diagnosis of Personality Disorder and who may have childhood trauma and present with risk.
To successfully complete the post-graduate diploma, you will need to have a strong interest in and aptitude for academic study and work. You must balance academic and NHS-based work and have a good system for time management.
You will be fully supported by psychology staff in the Trust while undertaking your training, receiving on-site supervision alongside the support and supervision offered by UCL.
About Us
BCHFT has been building psychological skills in non-psychology practitioners for several years. You will join a community where several nurses and AHPs have already successfully completed DBT training, and where a number of non-psychology staff are employed in other trainee CBT roles (e.g., for working with psychosis). There is experience in-house related to supporting people through these training posts, and we have learned lessons to smooth the process from prior experience.
This is the first time we have had the opportunity to employ CBT PD trainees in the Trust, and we are excited to be doing this at a time when we are embedding newly integrated Community services (post-transformation) in the MH Division.
The MH Division is the largest of the 4 clinical Divisions (OA, LD, and CYP being the others) and contains a number of diverse services including Urgent care, Planned care, Talking Therapies, Specialist Services, and Clinical Health Psychology.
Job Responsibilities
You will be undertaking your academic study at UCL and will be expected, at times, to travel to London for segments of on-site training. Some lectures will be delivered remotely. You will have academic assignments throughout the 2-year period and will need to pass these to progress. You can find out more about the curriculum at the UCL website. Travel and accommodation expenses for such on-site training will be covered by the Trust.
When not engaged in lectures or private study, you will be working in one of our CMHT services, delivering your newly forming CBT skills, under supervision, to CMHT clients.
Once you have successfully completed the 2-year post-graduate diploma, you will be automatically employed as a band 7 CBT (PD) therapist in the Trust.
