Willmott Dixon are currently recruiting for a Principal Surveyor to work on exciting new projects with our London & East construction business. Our office is based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, and we deliver projects across multiple sectors within north London, the northern home counties and East Anglia. This role will focus on overseeing some of our London based projects. As a Principal Surveyor, you will lead and motivate the commercial team with the commercial administration and financial control of our supply chain partners, delivering works on our projects in line with their Sub-Contract Agreements on time, within budget, sustainably and in line with the specification and quality standards. The Principal Surveyor will typically lead the commercial and financial control of a large project or multiple smaller ones. You will also support more junior team members who are leading their own projects. You will be involved in all stages of a project, from work-winning to in-use. You will be accountable for the successful commercial management and financial control of the project or projects. The Project Some of the duties / responsibilities will include: • Lead on supporting the commercial, preconstruction and delivery teams for the successful delivery of the project by procuring and delivering within budget and ensuring all pre commencement controls and signoffs are in place. • Support the Commercial team in reviewing contract documents early and ensure compliance with Group standards. • Support the team in the Internal Tender Launch Inception Workshop. • Substantiate the top ten key packages ensuring price and scope alignment with the contract. • Ensure that any alternatives or value engineering to ERs/CPs or WI/SI remains in accordance with the contract or derogations formally agreed. • May take the lead and provide support in preconstruction undertaking the estimating function and will have a thorough understanding of estimating, contract, planning, design management, bills of quantities, services, HS&E, sustainability, and social value commitments, bid management, adjudication requirements and supporting the team with bid submissions. • May take the lead on more complex and technically challenging high-risk projects for the business. • Provide commercial support to the team managing the programme and make sure the work is delivered on time, to budget, according to design specifications, drawings and documentation. • In collaboration with the operational team, ensure that the project is delivered in line with the contract, our agreed commercial strategy and company values. • Proactively ensure that works are procured according to the design specifications. • Bring people together, empowering and supporting them to deliver according to the design specifications. Essential and Desirable Criteria Essential Criteria • A high level of organisation and achieving deadlines • Quantity surveying technical knowledge and understanding • Understanding of JCT forms of contract • Being able to manage and report on more than one project at a time • Providing feedback for new and effective systems and controls for the business • Positively reacting to change and assisting in its implementation in the business • A track record of successful procurement • Extensive knowledge of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project • NEC contract experience would be desirable Appropriate CSCS card Desirable Criteria • Construction related degree • Membership or working towards MCIOB or RICS Personal Qualities Additional Information Willmott Dixon embraces diversity in the workplace and will consider flexible and agile working.
