We are looking for someone to join our portering team at the Becton Centre for Children & Young People. You'll help move equipment, documentation, specimens, and safely dispose of waste, and help maintain the safety and security of the building, respond to emergency calls, and ensure all areas are safe for patients, staff, and visitors.
This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), with shifts across 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Hotel Service Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:
1. Portering & Logistics: Collect, dispose of, and deliver waste, food, linen, and supplies. Help with patient transfers, deliveries, and ad-hoc furniture moves. Maintain external paths and bins.
2. Security & Safety: Monitor CCTV, respond to security issues, manage door access, and assist with emergency "blick" calls, ensuring building safety.
3. Estates & Maintenance: Report maintenance needs, perform minor repairs (e.g., lamp changing, tap testing), and assist with inspections, fire safety checks, and contractor support.
4. Housekeeping & Other Tasks: Help with cleaning and sports hall maintenance. Deputise for the Hotel Services Supervisor, overseeing staff, supplies, and vending machine management.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* GCSE's or equivalent including English and Maths (minimum A-D or equivalent to level 1)
* To have current driving license
* To have City/Guilds 2377 in PAT Testing and City/Guilds Accredited Basic Electrical Course or equivalent or be willing to attain within first year of employment
* First Aid at Work Level 2
Experience
* Experience of working within a customer service environment
* Experience in cleaning, caretaking, or maintenance work
* Previous hospital portering/domestic experience
* Previous Hospital caretaking / maintenance experience
Knowledge & Skills
* Ability to effectively communicate and interact with others (both verbally and written)
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to follow instruction and direction
* Basic DIY type maintenance knowledge and a basic mechanical aptitude
* To have a knowledge and understanding of Waste Management Health & Safety general awareness
