As a Site Operating Technician for the Embedded Assets fleet of OCGTs and Gas Engines, you’ll manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Hythe and remote sites, ensuring safe, reliable, and commercial performance. You’ll operate the plant from the Hythe control room, conduct routine operational tasks, perform fault diagnosis, and assist with breakdown recovery.
You will work a full shift cycle, including 'call out' duties, and may be required to travel for the EA portfolio. Collaborating with Engineering & Outage teams, you’ll support shutdowns and recommissioning as needed. Managing contractors for routine and non-routine tasks is part of the role, and Contract Manager or Contract Engineer accreditation is desirable.
This role offers the chance to work flexibly within a site team, contributing to operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive, and able to solve problems independently, with a positive attitude to ensure the success of Embedded Assets Operations.
Key Accountabilities
* Operate and maintain portfolio plant to ensure safety, environmental compliance, and statutory requirements.
* Perform routine plant duties to maintain commercial performance, availability, and reliability.
* Apply safe systems of work (e.g., Putting People to Work, Authorisation to Work) and take on safety roles up to Safety Controller level.
* Diagnose and report plant and control system faults.
* Implement operational, maintenance, and safety systems, adhering to relevant RWE Generation standards.
* Plan, organize, and supervise maintenance activities, including contractor supervision.
* Assist Location Manager and colleagues with projects and outage preparation.
* Maintain site documentation and procedures, liaising with internal and external customers, and support flexible plant operation and project delivery.
Knowledge & Skills
* Competent in all aspects of generating plant operation as required by the role.
* Appreciation of the commercial aspects of the power generation business.
* Knowledge and experience of power and/or process plant operation or maintenance.
* Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, demonstrates critical behaviours.
* A high standard of numeracy, written communication skills and IT literacy.
* A flexible approach to work patterns, dependent upon seasonal operating requirements; this will require a degree of flexibility over normal working hours particularly during winter operating regimes.
* Flexible and geographically agile whilst customer and service focused.
* Operations or Engineering qualification (or working towards) with NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely certification.
* Knowledge of health, safety, environmental legal requirements, power station operations, maintenance, and relevant codes of practice.
