JOB OVERVIEW
As a Specialist Children’s and Young Persons Occupational Therapist, you will be working with direct and indirect support from a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist (Team Leader).
You will also be expected to undertake a supervisory role for newly qualified Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and Student Occupational Therapists.
You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and diary. This opportunity involves community-based assessments and interventions, and as such, a driving license and access to your own car is essential.
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role include:
* Ability to effectively engage with service users and their caregivers.
* Provide assessments and support to service users with a wide range of diagnoses and needs, including but not limited to Sensory Processing Difficulties, Dyspraxia, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome.
* Confidence in gathering information and building therapeutic rapport with service users.
* Utilising both standardised and non-standardised assessments to formulate clinical reasoning, produce professional reports, and provide feedback to caregivers regarding Occupational Therapy outcomes, goals, and recommendations.
* Forming strong work relationships with external professionals within the Local Authority or Case Management Companies to support clients throughout the Occupational Therapy process.
* Clinically reasoning the most appropriate interventions to support individuals in achieving their therapy goals across various areas of occupational engagement, including handwriting difficulties, coordination challenges, fine and gross motor skill development, concentration levels, physical strength, fatigue, and sensory processing differences.
* Being a role model for Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services within local schools while facilitating Service Level Agreements and providing school-based assessments and interventions.
* Building rapport with school staff and liaising with SENCOs, Teachers, and Parents regarding necessary support.
* Presenting a consistent duty of care as per RCOT and HCPC guidelines, maintaining up-to-date clinical records for all clients, and ensuring written consent is obtained prior to any therapy involvement.
* Delegating suitable tasks to an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support caseload management and client prioritisation.
ADDITIONAL CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
* Supporting Student Occupational Therapists through practice placements following relevant practice educator training.
* Undertaking any other duties deemed appropriate by an Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or Director.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
* Evidence of postgraduate training engagement is required. You will have a responsibility to actively engage in clinical supervision regularly with your clinical supervisor. Informal supervision can also be sought.
* Seeking out training or educational opportunities that support progression within your role and relate to appraisal goals.
* Demonstrating dedication to CPD opportunities and maintaining your personal CPD record.
* Engaging in research to use up-to-date evidence as a clinical foundation for intervention planning and delivery.
* Participating in reflective practice to evaluate progression.
* Engaging in the appraisal process and fulfilling goals set within this framework.
PROFESSIONAL/ORGANISATIONAL
* HCPC registration and RCOT membership are essential. You must practice within the guidelines set by organisational and professional bodies.
* Communicating effectively with clients, families, and other professionals through various methods (verbal, email, telephone, etc.).
* Demonstrating effective time management and organisational skills in managing your workload and being flexible in working patterns to support client needs.
* Complying with all mandatory training requirements.
