Senior Hardware Design Engineer (Antrim) Xirgo Technologies is recruiting a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to develop Electronic Solutions within our Asset Management, Vehicle Telematics and Video telematics teams. Our customers are seeking to deploy IoT devices in order to generate actionable insight to reduce operating costs, improve uptime and enhance safety. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop electronic solutions for asset management, vehicle telematics and video telematics products. General Responsibilities Designs and develops equipment, processes and systems that include, but are not limited to data networks, communications, and display. Analyses equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive a practical design. Determines feasibility from technical and economic perspectives. Consult with research engineers or scientists and customer representatives to resolve design problems. Ensures compliance with technical procedures, documentation and manuals. Reviews the work of technicians and technologists who provide technical support. Lead the design, development, and testing of hardware for new products, focusing on digital, analog and mixed-signal circuit design. Create high quality, reliable circuit designs using industry standard tools e.g. Altium. Oversee the creation of PCB layouts, ensuring signal integrity, power integrity and manufacturability. Conduct simulation and perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to validate designs. Lead the effort to validate hardware designs through debugging and interation, ensuring they meet performance, cost and quality targets. Work closely with other engineers (software, mechanical, systems design) to ensure that hardware integrate seamlessly with overall product architecture. Lead and mentor junior engineers, managing timelines and ensuring that deliverables meet design and functional requirements. Produce detailed documentation for design specification, test procedures and manufacturing processes. Provide support during manufacturing and after-product-launch phases, addressing hardware issues, conducting failure analysis, and implementing design improvements. Stay up to date with the latest trends in hardware development, including emerging technologies, components and industry best practices. Specific Essential Criteria: The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics: Degree in Electronics or a related engineering discipline. Experience of developing analogue and digital circuits. Experience of Schematic Capture. Experience of simulation for electronic design. Willingness to travel as required to global Xirgo and customer sites. Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers. 5+ years of experience in hardware design, with a strong portfolio of completed projects. Extensive experience with hardware design tools e.g. Altium Solid understanding of electronics components e.g. microcontrollers, power supplies Strong understanding of hardware testing methodologies, including the use of oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment for debugging and validation. Experience with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testing (DFT). Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring or managing a team of engineers. Desirable Criteria: Experience in design of electronics for wireless communication - LTE, GNSS, BLE & Sub GHz. Experiences using Altium Designer, schematic capture and PCB layout. Experience in design of electronics for battery-powered devices. Experience in electronics designer testing using National Instruments or similar tools. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team development environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Knowledge of relevant standards and certifications e.g. RoHS Knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and power management techniques. Experience / Qualifications A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
