An exciting opportunity for a sandwich year university student has arisen at Crewe Alexandra Football Club, who require a full-time (40 hours per week) Data Analysis Intern. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the performance analysis and recruitment departments at a professional football club, and gain experience in the practical application of theoretical knowledge with elite football players. Crewe Alexandra have effective recruitment and analysis processes, and the successful applicant will obtain extensive experience of their planning and delivery under the supervision of the First Team Head of Recruitment. The successful applicant will form part of a multi-disciplinary team with the existing first team recruitment, analysis and coaching staff to optimise performance. This may also include opportunities to gain experience within our Academy. About The Candidate Key responsibilities: Assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of player performance and recruitment data. Support the scouting and recruitment team by providing data-driven insights on potential signings. Contribute to the development and maintenance of databases, dashboards, and reports. Assist with pre- and post-match analysis by compiling key performance metrics and trends. Support the creation of data visualisations to communicate findings to coaches and recruitment staff. Contribute to longer-term projects, such as analysing transfer trends Work alongside performance analysts and coaching staff to integrate data into decision-making processes. Fulfil any other relevant duties as directed by the recruitment staff. Person requirements: (E) Essential or (D) Desirable Enhanced FA CRB/DBS check (E) – can be applied for through CAFC if you don’t have one already. Enrolled on a mathematics, engineering, computer science or sports science-based (or similar) degree/module at the University that includes an integrated placement (E). An interest in working with and sports data (E). An interest in football (D). Experience in providing data analysis or data visualisations (D). Experience in football coaching (D). A desire to work as a recruitment analyst, performance analyst, or data analyst after graduating (D). What can we provide? A formalised learning placement within a professional football club in collaboration with degree programmes. Regular internal CPD and a minimum of 1x external CPD relevant to the role. A stipend of £7,000 for the placement year.
