The Clearance and Counteraction Team sits within CT Structure in BAI, Customer Strategy and Tax Design and is a small, friendly multi-grade team based in Birmingham. The team receives around 10,000 clearance applications each year which must be dealt with within a statutory 30-day time limit and involves close team working across all grades.
A clearance is a statement that, given the facts and in the circumstances described in the application, HMRC would not wish to invoke specified anti-avoidance provisions or that there will be a particular tax outcome. The transactions involved are mainly associated with corporate reorganisations.
As a Clearance Team Support Officer you will play a key role in supporting a multi-grade team of tax advisers and ensuring that clearance applications and related correspondence are handled within strict time limits. We are looking for a well-organised and adaptable individual with strong prioritisation skills to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of administrative and data management tasks, ensuring efficient processing of clearance applications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Recording clearance applications and creating risk assessment sheets from our external mailbox/Digital Mail Service queue.
2. Maintaining and updating the clearance database.
3. Preparing and issuing clearance letters.
4. Coordinating the transfer of paper records to and from remote storage.
5. Responding to enquiries regarding the progress of clearance applications, referring complex cases to the appropriate adviser.
6. Managing the internal mailbox to share clearance information with colleagues.
7. Keeping a database of referrals from internal colleagues.
Please note that duties are not limited to the above and may include other business functions as required.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You must be highly organised, flexible, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Essential Criteria:
1. Proven ability to work flexibly and at pace.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel & SharePoint).
3. Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
This role offers a great opportunity to develop within a dynamic and fast-moving environment. If you are a detail-oriented individual with a proactive approach, we would love to hear from you!
