About the opportunity:
The Box Encapsulation Plant project is one of the most important construction projects at the Sellafield Site, the plant will play a vital role in Sellafield’s 100-year clean-up programme by taking nuclear waste recovered from the sites original waste plants and encasing it in concrete so it can be stored in a modern building. The plant is primarily designed to deal with waste from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo, one of four legacy waste plants prioritised for clean-up by Sellafield Ltd’s owner, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). Alongside that work, the plant will also receive certain wastes from the other three legacy waste stores, the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond, the Pile Fuel Storage Pond, and Pile Fuel Cladding Silo.
For our team in Warrington we are seeking a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer. You will be required to travel to site in Sellafield.
You will report to the Area Lead Engineer 000 and the Engineering Manager on a full time basis.
Key responsibilities of the role as follows:
1. To lead and manage other engineers and their workload to budget and programme as required
2. Provide engineering support to construction and commissioning in accordance with scheduled activities
3. Establish and maintain strong relationships with the permanent works design team in Warrington, on site construction team and the client’s intelligent customer team to achieve early engagement in the resolution of technical issues as they arise.
4. Respond to technical queries, product permits, concessions and non-conformances in a timely manner arising from construction activities
5. Daily interfacing on the construction site with construction personnel, providing direct intervention as necessary to ensure the engineering design intent is met as per the drawings and specifications
6. Produce and check structural calculations (steelwork, concrete and masonry), technical reports and details as necessary for site modifications with approval of the permanent works team
7. Review contractor method statements, inspection plans etc.
8. Participate in and attend walk downs, meetings and reviews as required
Minimum Requirements:
1. Degree qualified, preferably Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE)
2. Nuclear industry experience preferred but not essential
3. A pro-active, self-starter with good communication, analytical and team working skills
4. Understanding of CDM Regulations and duties as a Designer
