JOB PURPOSE
To assist the line manager in the development of ICT within the school and ensure that all computer systems and peripheral devices are fully functional to meet the needs of the school. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervision
1. Supervise appropriate staff including the management and allocation of duties. (Supervision is defined as having full permanent accountability for planning and co-ordinating the quantity and quality of work as well as managing issues relating to discipline and welfare).
2. Identify and provide on the job training to appropriate staff.
3. Note: This is a discretionary element of the job description. The grade may be awarded if supervision is not a component of the post.
Administration of Network Systems
4. Planning, design, specification and installation, including upgrading of all school managed network systems.
5. Management of the structured cabled environment of any school managed network.
6. Baseline system support and application support on any school managed system.
7. Contact with outside agencies as necessary.
8. Liaise with managed service provider as required on changes to the Classroom 2000 infrastructure.
Provision and Maintenance of ICT Facilities and Resources
9. Ensure that all systems are fully functional to meet the needs of the school.
10. Daily care and maintenance of all computer systems and their environments.
11. Install hardware and software as appropriate.
12. Carry out repairs to equipment, where appropriate, within the competence of the employee.
13. Organise the repair of equipment either on site or with agencies as appropriate.
14. Liaise with the managed service provider on the maintenance of the Classroom 2000 infrastructure.
15. Perform backups of crucial data regularly on school managed systems.
16. Ensure system security on school managed systems.
Management of all On-Line Communications Services
17. Develop and maintain existing ICT systems.
18. Set up and maintain appropriate E-mail, Intranet and Internet facilities as required either on school managed systems or the classroom 2000 infrastructure.
19. Assist with the development and maintenance of the web site.
Curricular Assistance
20. Participate in planning and delivery of relevant induction and training sessions.
21. Assist staff and pupils with hardware and software problems arising from the use of ICT equipment within the classroom.
22. Give advice to the ICT co-ordinator to plan for future ICT advances.
23. Set up standalone computer systems for specific teaching/training situations and functions within the school.
24. Assist with the provision of INSET either in a large group or single tutorial mode.
25. Set up internet and conferencing facilities for specific teaching and/or training situations.
Records and Administration
26. Keep an inventory of all hardware, software and consumables.
27. Comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Copyright laws.
28. Contact outside agencies (on school’s behalf) concerning ICT facilities and developments within the school.
29. The post holder will be expected to maintain an awareness of ICT development in order to ensure the currency of ICT services within the school.
