Job Summary
Research Technologist to join our Next-Generation Sequencing team. The candidate will assist with our various NGS services (Complete Plasmid Sequencing, Complete Amplicon Sequencing, CRISPR Amplicon Sequencing, Viral Genome Sequencing and 16S Sequencing) utilizing the Illumina MiSeq platform. The candidate will also assist in the continued development and daily operation of our Oxford Nanopore-based Rapid Plasmid Sequencing service. The Research Technologist reports to the Core Director and the NGS manager and is expected to work very independently. Ability to work in a collaborative and fast-paced team environment, and to interact with researchers using our services is required.
Qualifications
1. May develop modifications of existing assay techniques, experimental protocols, or new procedures
2. Synthesizes and interprets results
3. Prepares written and/or verbal status reports
4. Uses statistical and graphic summaries
5. Orients and trains new Research Technicians
6. Executes protocols of non-routine experiments
7. Creates new protocols for novel applications and assays
8. Designs experiments independently
9. Assists Investigator with determining the most suitable methodology
10. Performs basic design and modification of protocols
11. Performs molecular biology-based experiments
12. Maintains various electronic inventory databases
13. Makes full use of an electronic project management tool to track and bill tasks
14. Prepares lab reagents, chemicals
15. Operates lab instruments, equipment
16. Writes and implements standard operation procedures (SOPs)
17. For specific research services, works as a liaison between core laboratory and customers
18. Performs independent literature searches
19. Organizes and presents findings at lab meetings and/or to clients
20. Maintains and orders supplies
21. Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation

7. Molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis
8. Next-Generation Sequencing using Illumina instruments such as MiSeq

10. Functions with speed, precision, and an understanding of theory behind tests/procedures
Education
1. Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Biology or similar field
