As Deputy, you will be responsible for supporting the Manager with the operational day-to-day management of Saxon Lodge Residential Home Limited, ensuring continued compliance with relevant legislation, CQC requirements, and Local Authority Commissioning specifications. In the Manager’s absence, you will undertake the role and expectations of the Manager. Working in partnership with the Senior Management Team, you will ensure the provision of a high-quality service enabling individual needs and organisational priorities to be met in accordance with available resources. Duties and Responsibilities:
* Support the Manager to maintain a high-quality service working in partnership with the Senior Management Team.
* Drive the care team by working alongside them, ensuring care needs are met.
* Assist the Manager to ensure the service meets and exceeds the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Regulations 2014, CQC requirements, and Local Authority Commissioning specifications.
* Ensure the delivery of safe, personalised services to each resident through assessment, person-centred Care Planning, Risk Assessment, regular outcome-focused reviews, and attention to Quality Assurance exercises.
* Ensure compliance with all Procedures relating to Health and Safety and maintenance of the building and equipment.
* Ensure compliance with Human Resources Policies and Procedures including recruitment, selection, retention, disciplinary/capability procedures, and absence management.
* Ensure compliance with Development, Training, and Supervision policies.
* Maintain confidential, current, and accurate records in compliance with Information Governance.
* Be aware of and ensure efficient and effective use of delegated budgets.
Service Delivery:
Support the Manager to ensure the delivery of person-centred care that promotes independence, choice, and dignity, empowering residents to be fully involved in the planning and provision of care. This will be achieved by working as a member of shifts providing personal care for residents, including weekend working.
* Attend a minimum of one staff handover discussion between shifts per working day.
* Be available to offer advice, support, and guidance through the ‘on-call’ process.
* Review the previous week and plan for the following week, considering issues such as resident Hospital appointments, Activities and events, and staff annual leave.
* Produce weekly Staff Rotas ensuring effective deployment of staff to meet residents' needs and giving staff adequate notice of shifts.
* Maintain, in conjunction with the Administrator, the Training Matrix for all staff employed at Saxon Lodge Residential Care Home.
* Undertake regular staff competency checks on all elements of care given (e.g., medication administration, Moving and Handling, knowledge and understanding of Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)).
* Provide bi-monthly supervision for some care staff as required.
* Ensure that all new referrals are responded to in a timely manner in line with contractual and organisational timescales.
Collaboration with External Agencies:
Build and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies, including Local Authority Statutory Social Services, CQC, Clinical Commissioning Groups, local NHS Teams, Community Mental Health Teams, GP surgeries, local Pharmacists, and other associated health professionals.
* Maintain and expand knowledge of current ‘best practice’ themes, developments, and strategies, particularly in relation to the care of residents with dementia.
* Ensure the production of person-centred Care Plans and Risk Assessments for new residents and review them monthly or sooner if a resident’s circumstances change.
* Meet with the Manager once a month to undertake a rigorous audit of a Care Plan and Risk Assessment.
* Have a comprehensive understanding of Adult Protection and Safeguarding and follow the Kent and Medway ‘Multi-Agency Safeguarding Adults Policy, Protocols and Practitioner Guidance’.
* Be involved with the Manager and Senior Management Team in ‘Lessons Learnt’ exercises following significant incidents, Adult Protection Investigations, and/or serious complaints.
* Ensure effective communication and information sharing through the use of Electronic Mail and Information Technology systems.
* NVQ 4-5 desirable, with experience in leadership within residential care homes.
