Our client – a leading law firm in Plymouth – is seeking an experienced and motivated Property Litigation Lawyer to join their Dispute Resolution team.
This is an excellent opportunity to handle a diverse and stimulating caseload, contribute to the growth of the firm’s property litigation offering, and work within a well-established and respected practice in the Southwest.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting a broad range of contentious property matters and supporting the wider Dispute Resolution department. This role will suit a solicitor or legal executive with a minimum of five years’ litigation experience who is looking to make a significant impact and take on a visible, client-facing role.
Key Responsibilities
* Handle a varied caseload of property litigation matters including:
o Landlord and tenant disputes
o Freehold and leasehold issues
o Development and planning-related litigation
o Land registration disputes, wayleaves, dilapidations, and easements
* Appear in County Court and High Court proceedings where appropriate
* Provide assistance to colleagues during high-volume periods or annual leave
* Participate in business development initiatives and networking events
* Support the Commercial Department with relevant property litigation advice
* Maintain accurate financial control, including time recording, billing, and debt collection
* Adhere to quality and risk management procedures (Lexcel compliance)
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
* Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a minimum of five years’ experience in litigation, specifically contentious property work
* Strong knowledge of civil litigation involving both tort and contract matters
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; able to work with minimal secretarial support
* Committed to delivering work of the highest quality and maintaining excellent client relationships
* Familiarity with Lexcel or similar practice management standards
* High levels of integrity, enthusiasm, and team spirit
* Willingness to accept supervision and act on constructive feedback
Desirable:
* Membership of the Property Litigation Association
* Innovative thinker who enjoys improving processes and challenging conventional approaches
* Keen to carve out a niche specialism within property litigation over time
