Registered Nurse (Edward Jenner), Band 5 (30 hours a week)
We are looking to recruit an experienced band 5 nurse to work in the Edward Jenner Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The Edward Jenner Unit is a busy day care unit based at Gloucester Royal Hospital, open Monday - Friday between 08:00-19:00.
We provide care and treatment for Haematology patients, delivering a range of treatments including:
1. Administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT), immunoglobulins & blood products
2. Procedures such as venesection and bone marrow biopsy
3. SACT outpatient clinic reviews

Main Duties of the Job
You will receive a comprehensive induction with our dedicated Practice Development team and be supported to achieve all clinical competencies to work independently within the unit. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver all therapies required by our patients, with training provided if needed, including the opportunity to complete the SACT module (APPS accredited by the University of Gloucestershire).
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, compassionate registered nurse with excellent communication and people skills.
Job Responsibilities
You should ideally have been qualified for a suitable number of years, have some experience of Haematology/Oncology patient care & treatment, and be working towards a specialist course relevant to Oncology/Haematology. If you haven't, please still get in touch to learn more about the specialty.
You will need to have:
* Enhanced clinical skills including administration of IV drugs, cannulation & phlebotomy.
* Ability to care for PICC lines and CVCs.
* Demonstrated ability to assess a patient's condition & implement appropriate care.
* Effective communication skills, especially where patients' ability to do so is compromised.
* Capability to deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to lifelong learning
Experience
* Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
* Previous experience in a relevant specialty
Knowledge
* Acts as a role model and leads by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
* Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery
* Commitment to developing competencies, including specialist skills
* Enthusiasm and genuine interest in working within the multidisciplinary team
* Understanding and commitment to good record keeping using the Trust's electronic and paper methods
Qualities
* Display a caring attitude towards patients, their relatives, colleagues, and themselves in a stressful environment
