Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (16 hours) Senior Physiotherapist (Team Leader) to work within a Centralised Stroke Centre which sits within a large teaching trust and Neurosciences Centre. The successful candidate will have the opportunity work as part of a large dynamic MDT alongside Consultant Physiotherapists, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and another full time band 7 physiotherapist, to facilitate service delivery and development. The service works closely with the regional Integrated Stroke Delivery Network (ISDN) and is the centralised service for mechanical thrombectomy.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical leadership skills and broaden their experience in stroke. The successful candidate will have managerial responsibility for a group of registered and unregistered staff and provide leadership to that team ensuring the provision of a high standard physiotherapy service. They will have a lead role in multidisciplinary delivery of stroke rehabilitation, advanced assessment and treatment of a variety of complex patients on a stroke pathway, developing and expanding clinical practice in stroke. There is a commitment to MDT service delivery and improvement. Candidates should have significant experience in the field of acute neurosciences and stroke including working with patients with acute respiratory impairments and complex needs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work autonomously, undertaking specialist, advanced assessments and treatment of patients with diverse or complex acute neurological presentations.
They will be expected to use advanced clinical reasoning, analytical and investigative skills to interpret clinical and non-clinical facts in order to provide an accurate diagnosis, treatment planning and goal setting, and pathway planning.
The post holder will be expected to actively participate in the development and education of registered, un-registered and undergraduate therapists within the speciality and contribute to relevant departmental and speciality education programmes.
There will be an expectation for active participation in service evaluation and quality improvement projects. The post-holder will be expected to have a strong knowledge of current evidence in stroke and its application to clinical practice, using advanced clinical reasoning skills. The Physiotherapy Department actively supports individual CPD and personal development and participation in Therapy Service development.
Key skills for this post include confidence in communication, strong leadership, collaborative working with peers, and a personal desire to develop. You must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills day to day, as well as proactive management of team operational planning such as appraisals, rotation planning, respiratory competency training, staff planning and students and staff induction.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
* Appropriate Physiotherapy or professional qualification e.g. MCSP/ BSc or MSc.
* Registration with Health Care Professions Council
* CSP or equivalent professional registration
* Evidence of commitment to advanced clinical and non-clinical continued professional development within own speciality, e.g. post registration training, management / Leadership competencies and evidence of a detailed personal development portfolio
* Relevant, accredited, postgraduate education/courses in neurological/stroke physiotherapy

Experience Essential
* Significant post registration experience of which considerable experience has been within the field of Neuro Physiotherapy as a senior physiotherapist in a NHS organisation. To include experience of working with Stroke. Experience of staff management including supervision and of development and performance management of staff.
* Significant experience in education and clinical training of others.
* Some experience of clinical/service evaluation
* Proficient knowledge and skill in the specialist assessment and treatment of a wide range of stroke presentations and complexities including posture and spasticity management
* Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
* Awareness of current evidence in stroke care, including the most recent guidelines and application to clinical practice, using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
* Good understanding of IT systems and its application to clinical practice.
Desirable
* Experience of treating neurosurgical patients
* Good knowledge and application of all areas of Clinical Governance including Quality, Audit and Risk management
* Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession
* Good understanding of principles of data and statistics and experience of their use in evaluation of service delivery
* Knowledge and understanding of the research process.
