CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLES SEXUAL VIOLENCE COUNSELLOR (OUTREACH)

ARCH is a leading provider of sexual violence services in Teesside. Based in Middlesbrough, we provide a range of services to meet our client’s needs including emotional & practical support, therapeutic counselling, and an Independent Sexual Violence Advisory (ISVA) service, enabling us to support clients who have reported or are thinking of reporting their experiences to the police.

Main Responsibilities
* To provide a therapeutic service to children and young people who have been affected by sexual violence.
* To work within BACP Ethical Framework, ensuring that high professional and ethical standards are maintained.
About this role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our established and respected, specialist sexual violence team.
We currently have 1 x 21-hour post for a qualified counsellor to deliver therapeutic services to children and young people who have been affected by sexual violence.
You will be joining an established but growing team of staff to deliver support via outreach in schools and other community venues across Teesside, with occasionally delivering support from our office based in Middlesbrough.
The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering therapeutic support to children and young people, particularly play therapy for children aged 13 and under. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work independently but also as part of a team.
Key Tasks
* Providing individual counselling to children and young people who are referred to the service, using a variety of therapeutic techniques, including play therapy for children aged 13 and under.
* To conduct initial assessments of children and young people referred to the service to identify therapeutic needs and the appropriateness of counselling (liaising with parents and caregivers for younger children).
* To provide play therapy to children aged 13 and under on an outreach basis, within school settings, across Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool.
* To provide counselling to young people aged 14+.
* To provide occasional counselling to Adult Survivors/Supporters.
* To maintain agency records as required and work within ARCH’s policies and procedure guidelines, at all times.
* To provide feedback, data, and information to Children and Young Peoples Lead.
* To input accurate data / clinical notes onto the in-house database system.
* Using outcome measurement tools to evaluate effective value and impact of therapeutic work.
* To attend regular clinical supervision to develop counselling skills and maintain a high quality of therapeutic work and ethical practice.
* To participate in team building.
* To participate in ARCH Teesside’s induction process and undertake regular training to meet individual training needs.
* To participate in team meetings.
* To provide specialist advice to other workers/agencies, including delivery of some training sessions.
* To participate in annual appraisal of performance and show commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Contribute to service projects and initiatives as appropriate.
* Actively promote ARCH Teesside and our Children and Young Peoples Service.
* Develop pathways and liaise with external services and relevant support networks as and when required.
* To attend external meetings i.e. Multi Agency Meetings where appropriate.
* To be flexible and willing to provide evening sessions 1 evening a week.
* To carry out such additional duties as reasonably required from time to time by the Clinical Lead.
This work can be stressful and demanding, dealing with complex and sometimes harrowing issues. However, the Children and Young Peoples Sexual Violence Counsellor will have access to clinical supervision alongside regular monthly case management.
Type of contract: Permanent
Salary: £27,354.60 (£15.03/hour) salary is pro rata based on 35 hours per week and subject to review following successful completion of probation.
Hours: 21 hours
Location: Outreach/Teesside with office location in Middlesbrough.
Holidays: Starting at 25 days per annum plus public bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time).
