(e93fb87f) The role is to deliver a custom curriculum to a child waiting for a school place.
We are looking for someone who is a good match for the child: outgoing and encouraging but patient and prepared to take a child-led approach. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of and experience of working with children with PDA and / or play-based learning.
The primary aim is to build rapport with the child and build confidence in engaging in learning activities to help him be ready for a school place when it becomes available.
He is 10-years-old and autistic with a PDA profile and experiences Emotionally Based School Anxiety (EBSA). He has been out of school for several years and is waiting for a placement at a special school. Learning is to take place primarily in the child's home in Castle Eden, potentially with access to local community venues if agreed at a later date.
Funding is for 2.5 days per week term-time with a start date as soon as possible.
There is some flexibility of scheduling for the hours, around other fixed commitments. While funding is based on a term time, there is funding for transition work during the summer break, so some availability over the summer would be a bonus, even if just for a few hours here and there.
This is a temporary placement and will continue until a school place has been agreed. This is currently thought to be around December time. In the event that the child is not offered a place this could be extended for another academic year or longer. The curriculum will be designed with Autism / PDA in mind and will be specifically tailored to the child's needs and progress and is designed to be implemented by a teaching assistant. Time will also be allocated for delivery of specified OT and / or SLT interventions according to plans set by relevant specialists as defined in child's EHCP.
You will also be expected to:
1. liaise with curriculum provider
2. write a monthly update report
Candidates must:
3. Hold a minimum of a Level 2 TA qualification
4. Must have experience working with SEND pupils on a one to one basis
5. Calm, confident and proactive attitude required with the ability to use own initiative in difficult situations
