Second in Business and Economics, MPS/UPS + TLR 2a (£3,391 p.a.)
Required from September 2025 or earlier
We have an excellent opportunity for you to nurture your teaching career within a growing Business, Economics and Computing team in our thriving school. We are looking to appoint a second in Business and Economics who would have the opportunity to broaden their leadership experience in this positive and forward-looking faculty.
Great Western Academy opened in September 2018 and has state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in all years and has a growing sixth form to match. Our first four Sixth Form cohorts have had very strong outcomes leading to impressive destinations which include top universities Oxford and Cambridge.
The foundations we have laid in Business and Economics are excellent: our current teachers have set up an innovative provision, exploiting the fact that every student has a laptop to assist with their learning; students are enthused in their lessons and we have an excellent take-up at GCSE and A-Level Business.
The role will provide the successful applicant with the chance to further develop and teach an exciting curriculum KS4 as well as teaching A-level. You will be part of a dynamic and growing teaching team and you will therefore have the chance to significantly shape the experiences of our students in the subject as they progress through our school. As second in faculty you will have an area of leadership that will be agreed with you, likely to be leading in subject areas, such as Business and Economics.
There is the potential for this role to develop as the school and Sixth Form grows, with various leadership opportunities becoming available in future years, both subject and whole-school based. Our priority is very much to recruit the best classroom practitioners who can ensure our students arrive at the Academy excited about the day ahead and leave each day talking about the excellent learning they have experienced.
Great Western Academy runs a successful enrichment program for all students from 3.10 to 4.15 on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for year 7 and year 8s. The subjects studied are as diverse as Astronomy, Orchestra, Volleyball, Pokémon and Scrabble club. Enrichment broadens and deepens a student’s range of experiences at school and gives them the opportunity to learn with other age groups. We also understand the need for sometimes giving students more support, and during enrichment time you may wish to run an intervention session for a specific group of identified students. All teachers will run one enrichment or intervention session a week as part of their directed hours. It is an opportunity to engage students’ interest in an area of your own interest.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.
