About The business unit The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Position locations: Altrincham, UK / Bristol, UK / Glasgow, UK / London, UK / Tadley, UK / Southampton, UK Overview Of Role Provide robust and timely technical radioactive waste management expertise to support a range of clients in new build, operations and decommissioning. Advise on some of the following areas: characterisation (including sentencing), management, production, treatment, storage, packaging and consignment of radioactive waste. Work with our other departments, such as safety case and engineering to provide our clients with a comprehensive offering. Produce technical reports for example: Waste Strategies, Project Waste Management Plans, BAT studies, Characterisation strategies, Sampling Plans utilising DQO, packaging proposals, calculations associated with waste activity assessment or dose assessment, generation or application of fingerprints, EPR compliance assessment. Participate in the preparation of bids regarding radioactive waste management. Support the development of colleagues at various levels. Potential for travel internationally for internal and external meetings, and site visits. Candidate Specification Either a degree in a Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) subject or equivalent industrial experience Good working knowledge of UK and/or international: legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and best practice relating to radioactive waste management and characterisation. Knowledge of the radioactive waste supply chain in the UK and/or internationally, such as: available waste disposal, storage or treatment facilities and their acceptance criteria and permits. Experience is welcomed from the full breadth of radioactive waste activity levels including those specialising in a particular activity level only An appreciation of the full lifecycle of radioactive waste from planning for decommissioning at the design phase, through to permit surrender after decommissioning and remediation. Experience of regulatory engagement and external stakeholder management. Good communication skills appropriate for client facing interactions as well as interactions with colleagues of various levels and disciplines. The Following Would Also Be Of Benefit Knowledge and experience of radiation protection, for example radiation risk assessments and dose assessment, in the radioactive waste context is welcomed and fits in our multi disciplinary team with the potential to diversify towards radiological protection in the future Knowledge and experience in new build, decommissioning planning and implementation RPA/RWA qualifications or chartered status (or working towards these) Experience in the transport of dangerous goods and/or a DGSA qualification Experience with the management and classification of non-radioactive hazardous wastes and understanding of the common challenges with radioactive waste Experience in radiochemistry, the specification of analysis suites and techniques and the interpretation of analysis data Project Management and delivery experience Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK.
