The Obstetric and Gynaecology team are looking to appoint a new colleague for a full-time, 10 PAS, permanent post based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
The post holder will join a team of 17 Consultants and a Specialty Doctor and will have accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and be on the specialist register.
The successful candidate will have a passion for Obstetrics and risk management with expertise in management of high-risk pregnancy. They will help to support the Fetal Medicine service and preterm clinic. Interest and experience in risk management would be of benefit in this appointment.
The department has a 3 tier on-call rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology, currently with a 1:12 on call commitment. This may be subject to change as the needs of the department are evaluated with a growing and increasingly specialist consultant workforce.
This post will require cover of the obstetric on-call part of the rota only, though should the successful candidate be qualified and comfortable with emergency gynaecology this could be included. The candidate will join an already well-established team, which includes Consultants with special interests in Fetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine, and diabetes, Urogynaecology, Menstrual Dysfunction, Minimal Access surgery and Endometriosis, Gynaecological Oncology.
Main duties of the job
To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnostic and treatment services to patients requiring obstetric services, as outlined in the proposed programme. This includes management of obstetric patients at consultant level i.e labour ward management and decision making regarding high-risk obstetric patients.
To organise, manage and be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients at Musgrove Park Hospital. Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed annually. You are responsible for the associated duties set out in of the Terms and Conditions.
The purpose of including agreed personal objectives in your Job Plan is to set out in clear and transparent terms what you and your clinical manager have agreed should reasonably be achieved in the time in question. These objectives are not contractually binding in themselves, but you have a duty to make all reasonable efforts to achieve them.

Job responsibilities
You will work a day on delivery suite as part of a 3 person on-call buddy system, covering the labour ward, triage and the antenatal and postnatal wards.
You will provide cover for the DCDA twin clinic and Rainbow (bereavement) clinic.
You will provide cover, in part, for the Perinatal Mental Health Clinic and run twice a week dedicated elective Caesarean lists.
You will take part in learning and review (risk) meetings as part of the MDT team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent ("equivalence" must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* MSc. or equivalent
Experience
* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
* Clinical experience at senior level in high risk obstetrics and/or Fetal Medicine
* Statement regarding appropriate training and experience.
* Sub specialty training/ATSM in Fetal medicine, high risk pregnancy, maternal medicine, Labour ward lead
