Due to the retirement of the current post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an interim Chief Pharmacist within Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will work as an integrated member of the pharmacy team and will provide senior leadership for Medicines Management, ensuring the Trust-wide delivery of safe, effective, and efficient Medicines Optimisation.
The post holder will be responsible for Trust-wide pharmacy services and must be strategic in developing innovative services whilst upholding statutory requirements related to the safe and effective running of our pharmacy services.
Main duties of the job
* Act as professional head of service for Pharmacy services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust.
* Responsible for all people and financial resources in the main Trust pharmacy service and advise on management of other pharmacies through service leads and operational managers.
* Act as lead for the Trust on Medicines Optimisation and provide expert interpretation to the Board and Senior Managers on all Medicines Optimisation issues to ensure compliance with all legislative, governance and operational aspects of Medicines Optimisation.
* Work with partnership organisations on the development of joint Medicines Optimisation strategies in the local health system.
* Contribute to various groups and committees in the Trust such as the Pharmacological Therapies Committee, Clinical Governance Committee, and Medicines Safety Group.
* Manage and maintain the Pharmacy budget and resources.
* Represent the Trust on external medicines-related groups or committees.
* Support the Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs for the Trust in the management of controlled drugs across BSMHFT.
* Implement the Trust Medicines Optimisation strategy and work plan and other medicines optimisation projects, e.g., Digital medicines work.

Qualifications and training
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
* Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or demonstrable equivalent experience)
* Postgraduate or management qualification, or equivalent experience
* Postgraduate qualification (diploma/masters) in Pharmacy Practice, or equivalent experience
* Evidence of sustained personal and professional development
* Membership of College Mental Health Pharmacists (CMHP)
* Post Graduate qualification in Psychiatric Therapeutics and/or Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy
Experience
* Demonstrable senior leadership experience in multiple NHS pharmacy settings
* Significant experience of successfully managing potentially challenging situations with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes, often dealing with complex and conflicting issues
* A well-developed understanding of current health and social care issues and policy
* Substantial experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development in a politically sensitive and complex environment
* Effective and confident external communications skills
* Experience of leading and contributing to policy and/or research at a regional or national level
* Experience of delivering significant change across organisational boundaries
* Experience of developing and maintaining a safety culture
* Experience of effective partnership and working with internal and external stakeholders

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your first week with us.
